Hawks say Sharp could skate by the weekend

Tuesday, 03.29.2011 / 6:13 PM / NHL Insider

By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer

BOSTON -- Injured Chicago forward Patrick Sharp is progressing well and could get back on the ice by the weekend, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said prior Tuesday's game at TD Garden. Sharp, who is sidelined with a left knee injury, will miss his fourth straight game when the Blackhawks take on Boston.

"I'm going to say soon, but how soon?" Quenneville said. "I don't think he'll be on the ice in the next couple of days but I think you can see him in not too long.

"Certainly you need some practice time, to get on the ice, have some good skates in practice time before playing some games."

Wow, from limping a day ago to skating? Hopefully it's just a light skate and not full contact.

After Saturday's game he walked out of the locker room with his brace in his hand although he was noticeably limping then.

Yea that's what Tony was talking about. Since it was a bruise and not MCL, it all depends on how the bruise heels. He could be ready quick or it could take longer.

I'm sure they won't let him do anything he's not physically ready for. They want him for the playoffs healthy.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Agreed...make sure he's ready. Good news though...

And I take it SuperDave is still MIA with no timetable, right?

Barring a miracle, Bolland won't be back until next season at the earliest.

Bolland must have really been dinged hard in the noggin'. Is it Bolland's first concussion? Or maybe it's a number of factors that have a play in how fast one recovers from a concussion.

He was elbowed directly in the back ot the head. It was below the helmet. Yea he was dinged hard. Kubina should be out as long as Bolland is.

Agreed. There should be some correlation between the injury time and how long a suspension is. Maybe not 1 for 1, but at least something more than 3 measly games for a hit that sidelines a player indefinitely.

Perhaps a suspension should be ongoing until the injured player returns to the lineup. That would definitely reduce intentional head shots.

Especially the dirty hits like that one. It wasn't even in the act of a check. He skated up behind him and elbowed him in the back of the head. Bolland didn't have the puck, the play was in front of him.

At the least, 10 games, like Cooke received. And F this having a past history, the intent was to injure Bolland and he succeeded.

IMO, there should be a minimum suspension for any hit that is determined to have been done with an intent to injure.

For example, you intentionally elbow someone in the head, but the injured player return before your minimum suspension ends. Regardless, the suspended player should still sit till the minimum suspension finishes. Why? Intent to injure.

On the other hand, if the player injured is out longer than the minimum, the suspended player should continue to sit out games till the injured one returns.

While I agree about the idea... it could lead to teams embellishing extent of injury. Lets say Seabrook elbows someone in the head on accident and that player happens to be a shitty player. That team could **** the Hawks since they don't take a big loss with their shitty player out while it would hurt the Hawks really bad having Seabrook out for an extended period.

What if it's with intent to injure?

Anyway, I doubt if any player would agree to sit out games he's healthy to play in. Now if the team scratches him... but I just don't see that happening.

I agree with Mikita. When "INTENT" is concluded, which in Kubina's case was clear, then you have circumstances that deem much harsher punishment. Guess what, Kugina will be at the UC playing a game on Sunday. Bolland will not be. It was NOT in the act of a hockey play. What you describe of Seabrook above is.

True... but even if there was intent, as much as I'd love to see Matt Cooke still suspended from his hit on Savard, teams could still abuse that system based on the players involved.
