I thought Salak would end up being a decent goalie and that we might even showcase him in the preseason to get something in a trade, but I like the Hutton kid much better based on what I've seen out of him.

I'm okay with Bollig signing a low-end deal, and I think Smith can be a player or at the very least decent trade bait as a prospect.

Glad Smith got signed. I think as long as he gets back from that injury that he's a good asset on that 4th line.

He can hit and play defensive and is "gritty" like you want from a fourth liner. And he also has a little scoring touch that the Hawks need on that fourth line. I would be very happy with a Smith-Mayers-Shaw 4th line with Carcillo thrown in every once in awhile.

Bollig is just trash for now, in my opinion. Carcillo can do that job until he gets suspended or injured....

I agree. But that doesn't mean it's the right thing.

Bollig fights so the Hawks want him. :obama:

Bollig plays a better game for the fourth line in my opinion.

Smith is sort of an in betweener, I dont see a fit for him.

Bollig isn't going to score. At all. The Hawks need scoring on the fourth line and Smith has the defense to play there.

I like Bollig, but I think he's the one there is no fit for.

What game is that?

Agitating, forechecking, hitting. 3 things that he does better than Smith, even though Smith is a better overall player. All about filling that role. Not about having the most skill.

Smith has shown that he can hit well too and gets into the corners.

Plus he can score. Not sure how he doesn't "fit the roll" He's what the Hawks really need on that fourth line right now.

Hawks just need to get some 3rd line wings to finish out the offense.

Shawn Thornton or Ben Smith? Smith will score more than Thornton, but I would take Thornton for the fourth line over him every single time. Not all about scoring, especially when talking about a role like a 4th liner. I'd take Bollig over Smith for that 4th line.

Bolig is gonna be an AHLer who may get called up when Carcillo gets suspended or hurt again.

I could see Smith being a good piece on the 4th line. He is physical enough and has a good enough all around game to impact with some energizers. Let's not forget, he has the look:

Why not? I cant tell him my feelings on Bollig over Smith?

Did this all of a sudden not become a forum where fans debate things? We were both giving arguments for our side, bringing up reasons and stating our opinions in a respectful way. Just because you disagree with me you go to one of your tactics that has nothing to do with a decent hockey debate.

Correct. CCS Blackhawks Forum is a Forum where members debate things, DewsSox79 rolls his eyes, and tbo41fan eats donuts.

I'd like to hear why so many fans like Smith. Can't be the Game 6 OT goal. Some of these posts also made me  when they talk about Smith being a hitter etc. Smith will lay a hit, but he doesn't do it all the time.

The Blackhawks need someone to protect the players and a heavyweight to fight, Bollig makes that role which is why he is on the roster over Smith. Now I wouldn't mind Smith and Hayes battling for a job, but no one is sure if Smith is going to be healthy

Bollig may well fit the fourth line bruiser role better but I like Smith because even back to college he was a winner, he scores, plays a little gritty and gives 100%.

I'm not sure either of them are exactly what we need but I tend to think Smith will end up being the better all-around player but Bollig fits the plan a little better right now.
