I'd like to hear why so many fans like Smith. Can't be the Game 6 OT goal. Some of these posts also made me  when they talk about Smith being a hitter etc. Smith will lay a hit, but he doesn't do it all the time.

The Blackhawks need someone to protect the players and a heavyweight to fight, Bollig makes that role which is why he is on the roster over Smith. Now I wouldn't mind Smith and Hayes battling for a job, but no one is sure if Smith is going to be healthy

Did you learn nothing from John Scott's tenure in Chicago? That bolded part is an NHL myth.

You can have a guy that can fight on the roster, but he better be able to play hockey, too. Bollig is not that guy.

2012-13 4th line should be: Carcillo-Mayers-Shaw

Smith might be able to crack the 3rd line if he goes back to the form he showed in his impressive, but brief, role in the 2011 playoffs. He showed a willingness to forecheck and to battle in front of the net for loose pucks for his three playoff goals. If not, he'll be in Rockford all season again.

I think shaw is best served on 3rd line

A 4th line of carcillo-Mayers- Bollig is SOLID imo

It's funny you compare Bollig to Scott. Bollig can actually play the game. He has shown in Rockford he can kill penalties, and play in the top 9. Do I expect him in the top 9 for the hawks, no but he's going to be there to take on heavyweights. As most of you know I'm totally fine with dressing a guy to fight.

That 2011 was just a sample size. He's a better overall player than Bollig, but until smith can learn to bring his game every night he will be in Rockford. He was given every opportunity this year to make the team from camp, but didn't, that should tell you guys something

Bollig can play..hopefully it's in Rockford, where he belongs.

Serves no purpose playing 4 mins a game if that.

A very good point. If anyone had the benefit of the doubt last year, it was definitely Smith, after his playoff performance.

What is the purpose of Bolig on the 4th line if Carcillo and Mayers are also there? So he can have staged fights that may take out the need for fights so Carcillo can stay on the ice?

I think Bolig can improve but he doesn't look ready to be a full fledged NHL player.

I thought Ben Smith was in position to make the team from camp. You can't ignore the concussion and the impact it had on him losing that chance. Plus it made him seem off when he got back on the ice from the get go.

Didn't Smith get injured in the preseason?

Yes, which is a point I made in the thread earlier or another thread. No one knows for sure how healthy he is going to be. It seemed he went down quite a bit last year with minor injuries with games here and there.

Why not? I cant tell him my feelings on Bollig over Smith?

Did this all of a sudden not become a forum where fans debate things? We were both giving arguments for our side, bringing up reasons and stating our opinions in a respectful way. Just because you disagree with me you go to one of your tactics that has nothing to do with a decent hockey debate.

I know.

tactics brah
