why is it hard to believe they didn't turn a profit last year? It's notoriously difficult to make a profit with a sports team, especially hockey.

All the merchandise over the past couple seasons has to help. Also, what the hell is up with the part of revenue sharing that didn't give Chicago shit when they sucked? Because of market size? That's bullshit. Pay when you make money, but when you don't, New York, L.A., Dallas and others won't have to pay you shit.

That's pretty funny. I love how they included the "new" Practice rink. Wonder how much that was.

The best part--

"He said he plans to leave the franchise to his children "in better shape than I found it."

He's gonna off Peter? LOL

I am sure it helps, but don't forget, the players take 54% of that.

Normally I'd agree with you, but if you truly believe what he's pumping here I have some land "slightly" under water for sale.

I have to imagine the merchandising must be twisted to help them pump this....

According to numbers they were approximately 20 mil in the Red the last year under Bill.

So half full building, half full parking, Half full concession sales, NO PLAYOFFS, and NO merchandising had them only 20 mil in the red. Not to mention they were PAYING to broadcast ROAD GAMES and Radio.

Flip to today. Full building, FULL parking lots (wirtz owned), FULL concessions, 21 PLAYOFF GAMES, and they still aren't making money?

Seriously.... LOLOLOL Tickets are going up EVERY FUCKING YEAR NOW!!!!

Owners always seem to be crying poor. No one keeps a money losing franchise that has won the cup and packs the stands with 3 consecutive annual sellouts.

Here's an idea where they can cut. Remember that 'golf outing' last season where the Hawks flew each player's dad out with the team, they wined and dined them, played on great golf courses, and basically had a grand ole time? I remember reading on the Hawk boards at the time how excited fans were about this that the players could bond with their fathers. And I'm thinking to myself, who gives a crap, why not let them do this on their own time, and more importantly their own dime. Guess who pays for that father/son outing? We do with higher ticket prices.

The Father-Son trip is done by MANY NHL Clubs during the Season. The Hawks were not the first nor the last.

Maybe they shouldn't have chartered everyone's family to Philly for game 6 and half the organization?

Those are assumed costs. Or at least most of them. And far from the reason our ticket cost is going up IMO.

Now expenses like the "new" Johnny's. Was it necessary? How about RED TOP PARKING? Is that equated in? Wirtz corp owns it out right.

I'd settle for them not inviting people like Cullimore and Skille and I can't remember who else, to join in all the Stanley cup winning festivities.

The loose translation on that article?

"We are going to price the typical fan out of attending games, and sell as many tickets as we can to sponsors, all on the obviously ridiculous premise that we are LOSING MONEY."

lololololol

Good luck getting to Hawks' games anytime in the near future.
