Great shutout for Subban. Hagel was hustling the whole game, love that effort.
11-6-4 with 26 points. this is pretty good, but also a huge cautionary tail for the season with this type of schedule. They are beating the teams they are supposed to be, and it's unknown how good the other teams actually are. 18 of the 26 points have been against Detroit and Columbus. 4 of the rest against Dallas. And only 2 other points in regulation, against Carolina. Florida and Tampa who are leading the division right now, they have only play 4 games against. And those were the first 4 of the season when they still didn't know who they were, but only walked away with an OT point. They are hot right now, but over the last 7 games they've played columbus 4 times, detroit 2, and carolina 1.
I can't stress enough how much this year sucks from just a fundamental scheduling and administration point of view. Playing the same teams over and over doesn't really allow you to know much about your team. Individuals sure, maybe a little more. And it's great they are playing and able to work stuff out, but how they handled long road trips the long NHL seasons, not getting do overs the next night when playing teams constantly, creating matchups for teams you haven't played 600 times. playing goalies you havn't played 4 times in the last weeks. It's all batshit crazy. I'm happy, I want the team to win, I don't know that they can win the cup but anything is possible in a year like this. But you can't really make any huge long term decisions based on a season link this and I see that's what's going to happen. Some of this kids are going to get contracts we'll be straddled with for a very long time. I see this season being another one of middle ground. It's almost a worse case scenario where you finally go full rebuild but the out perform in a wacky season and you think that you've already rebuilt.
That's the scary part. So far, it appears everyone has underestimated this team.....but, then again....they are in probably the weakest division and playing only the teams in that division. Most of the teams they are playing are at the approximately the same skill level as the Hawks plus these young kids haven't gone through the physical and mental pounding that traveling does to your body. I said weeks ago they could be a playoff team but that only sets them back in the rebuild with no high draft picks on the horizon. Things could play out significantly different next year when they get back to a regular schedule and these kids learn that there is lot more to being in the NHL than just playing the games. A very real possibility that the actual rebuild starts next season....hopefully, the front office doesn't buy into everything they have seen in this very odd NHL season.
Nice post, I would like to chime in on one thing. If the organization is fooled by this wacky season and the philosophy that this team has been rebuilt during the rebuilding then we know everything there is to know about Bowman and where he stands. The team should be striving to achieve greatness regardless of this season, and we hope that’s what Bowman and company are aiming for.11-6-4 with 26 points. this is pretty good, but also a huge cautionary tail for the season with this type of schedule. Yeah. And I want to clarify. I hate tanking. I hate all that. I just hate the thought of the organization being fooled by the abortion of a season this is and having it end up dictating the next 10 years. Which would suck.
I will always root for this team and always want them to win every game. But reality and possibility are much much farther apart right now and this year than they have any right being.
Hawks focus should be on building and identifying those who fit in for the future and those who will be career Ahlers. Yes, every teams purpose and goal is to make the playoffs and be potential cup contenders, however, that is not where the Hawks are, not even with Dach, Toews and Shaw in the lineup. The schedule in March should only be used as a measuring stick to see where they stand and use those games versus Tampa, Florida and Carolina as a true way of evaluating there players. All 3 of those teams are built 4 lines deep with excellent coaching, top talent, they know how to move the puck quickly and efficiently.add in towes, dach and even shaw and the 4 lines of fwds is pretty decent.....stan seems to find guys who can score immediately.
the d is still pretty bad even though keith looks young again and mitchell looks good.....the rest are meh to piss poor
not sold just yet on any goalie being a top flight starter but like what ive seen from both so far
march will be the litmus test.....would gladly take avg 1 point per game result at the end of the month
