My view of the universe is as follows:

°♠¡♥○Θ╤ ^ ∩Θ ╩

If you don't agree with my view, then YOU have a problem.

I love this shit.

I heard it late last night on radio as I was going to bed then I was excited all night.

Science rules! Suck it God, you're just a particle!

It was pretty amazing to see the footage of Higgs at the announcement, about 50 years after he initially theorized it.

I hope this explains dark matter too.

It explains little. If anything, it raises more questions.

Watched the announcement seminar live on the web, where the two teams presented their findings, understood about 5% of it but it was cool and a landmark discovery, even if it turns out it's not to be the Higgs boson, at least they've found a new sub-atomic particle, which hasn't been done in some time. Considering that it took just two years to discover something new is rather surprising as they thought it would take much longer and this was done with half of the energy that the accelerator is capable of doing. Imagine what could be discovered once they get it up and running at full power in a couple of years. They mentioned that the LHC has performed beyond their expectations and delivered massive amounts of very clean data. Keep in mind that there are still many other experiments being done at CERN such as the search for supersymmetry and higher dimensions. It's all very exciting and reading about all this has made me realize (again) how wonderfully strange nature is.

SCIENCE!

This is a big deal and gives some observable proof to some theories that have been around for a long time.

Unfortunately in the grand scheme of things this is like finding out that there is more than 1 color of blue. Just a small piece in a much bigger puzzle.

More than one colour of blue is one of the reasons the universe is rich and amazing, much like this discovery. The beauty of it all is that there are so many tiny, intricate pieces all at work. The process of solving the puzzle is the most interesting part.

I kinda think this will be the case...important discovery notwithstanding, the way science goes is that every answer leads to more questions.

It's unfortunate that this could have happened years ago and in the US, but we decided to cut funding to the particle accelerator in Texas as it was being worked on. It would have been 3 times more powerful than the LHC.

I completely understand the science behind the Large Hadron Collider but I can't help fearing that one of these manufactured collisions is going to lead to an H-bomb like annihilation of the planet.

But I digress. I do find it interesting that we now know of subatomic particles and can't wait until they can start measuring them and giving new weight or density ratings to the periodic table of elements. That thing is getting pretty cluttered.

Absolutely. Just pointing out that with how big this is, it is only a stepping pebble in the whole. After further tests clarify the theory to proof it will help lead to proof for the other theories dependent on the existence of HB particles.

Of course it is all small pebbles now. Everybody already discovered practically all the big stuff.
