His contract makes him nearly untradable, I am sure if they could have moved Brian Campbell they would have at the start of free agency being that he is our highest paid player and is our 4th defensemen.
Niklas Hjalmarsson's offer sheet is officially inked keeping him in Chicago for the next 4 years at 3.5 million per season. This was a great move by Stan Bowman and the front office getting a cornerstone of our team locked up at a reasonable price for the near future. I had posted earlier this would be the outcome based on the amount of cap space Stan cleared at the start of free agency knowing he needed to keep Hjalmarsson in a Hawks sweater.

That was what the Sharks offered him. Hawks have two options: 1) match or 2) allow him to go to SJ and receive the Sharks 2011 1st and 3rd rounders (due to the cap $ compensation); they are not allowed to extend him.
Also, he cannot be traded for one calendar year as well.
