If dalton is such a huge upgrade then why didn’t they sign him last year for the vet minimum? Why did they trade for Foles? Don’t give me that he wasn’t released yet bullshit everyone knew that was happening.

Yes, and no.

If we don't upgrade the tackle position it will look like the same trash. If Pace gets us a top 10 oline then dalton can be serviceable.

Still, whats the point? At best its like a 20% improvement over mitch. That doesn't get us anywhere besides mediocre for 3-4 more years.
He is here for one year and that is to be the placeholder for the rookie QB we move up and draft

Anyone notice the people saying Dalton will be such a huge upgrade are the same exact people that said the same thing about Foles a year ago?

The morning Show n The Score were doing it ad someone called in and totally called them on it.

Like Foles wasn't the same player on his Superbowl run, Dalton is not the same player he once was on the Bungles. Sadly it's gonna take another wasted season for the morons to figure it out.

Trey Lance

I'd love to take that shot on him but he wouldn't start over Dalton IMO. Dalton would start and get a kinda long leash coming into a new team while Lance can sit and watch, which after this Trubisky deal is a good idea to not throw another QB with very little college experience to the Wolves. It sure would be nice having Lance or M.Jones on the team though.

Gil, any other year, especially 5 or more years ago, Bears fans would be ecstatic. The fact that the Bears brass sold the fans on the idea that they would stop at nothing to get the QB position right after somehow retaining their jobs gave the fans the slightest glimmer of hope. Then all the hoopla and excitement from the Wentz rumors to the Wilson chase to the Carr and Watson discussions gave fans that exact hope like something major was going to happen. We the fans actually have nothing against Andy Dalton, but when your answer at this point(as it may change) is to solve the century long lack of a franchise qb is past his prime Andy Fucking Dalton, well then Gil, you and the Bears brass can go fuck yourselves. We the fans deserve so much better.

So who told you that they did not try everything to get every possible QB in the order that made sense? Last time I checked Wilson and Watson are not FAs and they did not get traded today did they (to another team)?

They did try to trade for Stafford - of course the Lions will not make a trade within the division
They could not get Goff since Stafford and Goff were part of same package
They tried to get Wentz but clearly they did not think he was very good and most of the NFL thinks that way (Bears don't have the OL Indy does and Dalton was better than Wentz last year and you can get Dalton at a much much cheaper salary cap impact) .
They tried to trade for both Watson and Wilson and every piece of info in the media suggests the same ... Bears had best offer for Wilson....clearly Sea does not want to trade their QB now and you can't blame them given just the salary cap impact and the fact that in that division, they would be doormats without Wilson
They tried to get Jameis Winston but he prefers the Saints and again, there is no need to overpay for Winston

Bears brass clearly said they have a priority order and everything is on the table and they went down that order leaving no stone unturned. But it takes two teams to make a trade and you cannot gut the rest of your team or we will not contend for the next 3 years anyways.

Now we get to see if they further augment the QB position in the draft, which makes sense given Dalton is a one year fill in as evidenced by the contract. By not giving up 7 first rounders to Seattle, at least we can get some legit talent elsewhere on the team and that is important for any QB to succeed.

They could have just used Foles for that, saved $10 million.

Except no matter how much Pace wants a qb in the draft, he still has to find a good trade partner that won’t rake him over the coals... and at least one of the qb’s still needs to fall far enough as well. That’s a lot of unknowns. Dalton may not be much, but they also can’t afford to be left holding the bag with just Foles on the roster after the draft, knowing their jobs are on the line. Pace is just doubling down.
