i figured my total wine an hour away in virginia wasn't even in the running to recieve any of the westy. and if they were, they're the type of people to hoard it for themselves. but being the worlds greatest beer? i dont blame them. i would love to have a sip of that beer. the monks say this is a sure one off too. they just needed money to keep the joint running

I hear Rochefort 10 is the closest to Westy. Rochefort 8 is probably my favorite beer ever, so if the Westy is better than that I'll go ahead and crown in the best beer ever as well.

I'm not too worried about being disappointed. I love BSDAs, I know the Westy is going to at least be a very very very good quality beer no doubt. Even if it turns out to be over hyped it should still be pretty damn good.

Is that something I can get here in md? or my total wine shop in VA? what's the cost on that? I am still excited about finding some of that nitro milk stout. man that is a delicious beer. it got an award this year. best stout i think

Getting Rochefort?

You should be able to get it I think. Here it's like 6 bucks for a 12 oz so it's pretty damn expensive. I think the 8 gives you a better idea of the flavors. The 10 is too stroing in my opimiomm the acholhol killls a lot of the flavor. I'm drunk

I guess this is going here:

So the best? I'm not sure yet, I'm going to have to think that one over. It's pretty god damn excellent though. The most exceptional thing about this beer in comparison to St. Bernardus or Rochefort is it's body. The carbonation is just perfect and it's such a god damn creamy beer it could pass for being served on tap. I was initially put off by the taste. It's pretty damn sweet. Much sweeter than the other two aforementioned beers. It was a bit of a shock to my taste buds, but they got used to it after a couple of sips. Lots of banana and clove flavors and breadiness too. The nose on this beer is fucking stunning too. It's up there with Bernardus and Rochefort, which I consider to be some of the best beers. I'm just not quite sure if the sweetness is a negative or not.

Just got Rochefort 10. Couldnt remember which one you liked better. Looking back, it was the 8. Oh well. I will try it tonight.

Just brewed another batch of chili beer. I had too many requests for it to go with something else.

I would love to try growing my own hops but I have two dogs. Hope are deadly to dogs (obviously only if they eat them). My dogs would likely have no interest, but I dont want to take that chance.

10 is still pretty good. Let us know what you think of it. That's a pretty good reason to brew more!

I wish it wasn't so rare so it'd be a bit easier for everyone to try at least once. I know I'm going to be longing for it once I've had the last of mine.

Nice. I want to try, but I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to do so. I was reading February was when they start letting people pre-order hops, so that's coming up soon. No idea if you really need to pre-order or not, maybe for hops like amarillo or something.

I ended up getting a turkey fryer for my birthday from my dad, itching to put it to use.

Nice now you can do full boils. Or we're you still doing that before? Just put my chili beer in the fridge. Keg worthy tomorrow! I am trading a 12pack for some elk meat from my brother. Trying to think of a new brew to do next.

Split boils. Yeah I'm thinking of what I want to do myself. I think I might try doing a Belgian quad.

Very nice. That would be a fun one. I have done a Belgian Pale (silver award winning!) but that is the extent of my Belgium endeavours. I have never done a stout either, so I am leaning towards one of those.

My stout turned out pretty poorly. So I can give you recipe not to follow.

It was supposed to be a clone of McAuslan's Oatmeal Stout, which of course looks like this:

St.+Ambroise+McAuslan+Oatmeal+Stout.JPG

Just wanted to show how off the color is, that's why I didn't include the hops. The taste is just as off. I had bought a kit off a HBS that didn't have the ingredients listed, so I got it primarily for the recipe. It was bad, really bad.

Is using caramel 20l or 40l fine if a recipe calls for 30l? Recipe calls for 3 pounds. Going to make an imperial IPA.

I wouldnt see why it would be a problem. 40 will give you more caramel flavor and color. 40 used to be the only thing available so the generic term "crystal" meant 40. I would probaly go 40. But that is up to you and your remaining grain bill.

Enjoy and send some my way!
