Do you crank up the AC when you leave? I have mine set to move up to 77 between 8AM- 4PM M-F. I also put in ceiling fans upstairs too for when its real hot. Just helps move the air around.

I have MidAmerican energy and they actually do free energy checks where they send a guy out to your house and tell you all the shit you could do to help conserve. My father in law did it and told him he needs better insulation in his attic. He did that and boom, much lower bill. You could check into that and see if ComEd has a similar program.

Yes see if your electric company will reimburse you any money you spend for energy savings. Mine i know will, so i was told.

Join ComEd's Hourly Pricing schedule. They email/text you when to conserve so you can avoid usage during peak time. For instance, it's better to do laundry during x time and x day and whatnot. During the month of July to Aug I saved about 30% versus their fixed rate plan.

You'll be surprised how much it will save you. Each degree higher you go saves 3%-5% or something like that.

Dude, I kept my place at 69 or 70 degrees all the time. Bill was projected to be at $249. I was like wtf. I then started leaving it at 74 degrees during the day. We are not home that whole time. Around 6pm, put it to 71 degrees all the way to the morning. In 11 days, it dropped to $192. This is in Austin. Weather outside 101 degrees. It was a fucking difference like you said. New cycle started and projection is $139.
