I feel like the cinematography was more akin to a feature film rather than a well produced TV series.

I’m no expert in these areas but it just felt/looked different than GOT. Anyone else get that vibe?

I am interested to know if the same vibe continues beyond the pilot.

My coworker felt that way. I think it was just pacing. idk. It felt like the early episodes of GOT where it was slower paced because things were being set up. I'll have to rewatch.

I dug it and I was worried I wouldn't because it was GoT without all the characters we love but I barely thought of that when watching. I do wish there was some kind of warm contrast in character to everything that was introduced is ep 1. It's gonna be hard not to constantly compare it to GoT but i feel like it needed a Tyrion type to give it some levity but thats a personal preference.

But i agree with others, cinematography was great. Costume design was top notch. They're really showing the budget.

That reveal at the end was pretty insane. Aegon dream was a Song of Ice and Fire that led to his conquest of Westeros. It wasn't a lust for power or greed but a man trying to unite the 7 kingdoms to defeat the white walkers. The clutch of the valerian steel blade that killed the Night King. Chills.

I missed this world so much.

I feel like GRRM finger prints will be all over this series as he is a producer. Kind of a double edged sword for me as I want this series to be the best it can be but I also want him to finish the fuckn GOT series!! I’m currently about 1/4 of the way through A Dance With Dragons and this ****** needs to finish the story.

I never watched GoT. By the time I was going to get around to it when it was already done, I heard a bunch of negative stuff about the last season or two, so I didn't bother. Sounds like it's worth watching?

I went into House of the Dragon completely blind, and I enjoyed it without any context.

Its my fav series ever so i say yes. The last season is def a major disappointment but the journey to get there is a little too good to pass up imo. Just watch it and if you dont want to be disappointed then skip the last season, which i think has 2 very good episodes.

Yeah i think there's a little too much already established backstory for him to sit this one out. The only rumored spin-off i think he could stay out of would be the Arya "What's west of Westeros?" series that was rumored a few years ago. The mystery behind it all leaves it open for someone else to takeover but then again George has been talking about how he wants GoTs universe to be like Star Wars or Marvel. I have a feeling he's going to stretch himself pretty thin.

There’s so much smoke around so many spinoffs I think it could be a bad thing for the franchise like I believe it is SW and Marvel.

HOD was a good idea. There should be plenty of tie in to the original series as the Targaryen civil war is referenced throughout the TV series some and quite a bit in the books. But I’ve read that there may be a animated series in the works and a Jon Snow spinoff as well as the Arya spinoff. It’s just too much and it waters down a good thing.

I was really not into watching Thrones because I haven't been into medieval fantasy shit since I was like 8 and didn't even watch the Lord of the Rings or Hobbit shit (but read the books when I was a kid).

Enough friends cunted on about it that I started watching Thrones when it was already in Season 2 and got hooked almost immediately. I then read all the books between S2 and 3 but kind of wish I hadn't.

I’ll disagree about the Marvel thing. I’ll admit to being a Marvel shill but I think that’s a completely different thing than Star Wars and GOT. I don’t even see how what Marvel is doing is considered bad. They’ve had a general vision of where they want their universe to go and took their time in making it a reality. They’re running the pop culture entertainment industry thanks to Kevin Feige.

I think you run into problems when you go the DC route and try to play catch-up and it’s been a disaster ever since. Star Wars needs to stop milking its OG trilogy characters and start expanding the universe and telling fresh stories.

As long as GRRM and co take their time with these things it should be ok. And HBO has no issue scrapping a project that doesn’t test well. They filmed another original GOTs pilot that cost $30M and they dumped it after the test screenings. To me that bodes well for the future of the franchise. And honestly, if it sucks it sucks. I’m just happy that the original series was mostly great and gave me something I can continue to rewatch.

It's still worth a binge watch. The shows highs were so high that it's a must watch. The ending isn't what pissed me off it was the lack of a journey and the pacing. I'd still recommend it. I think if you haven't vested 9 years in the show the ending won't sting as bad. The ending all makes sense and it is somewhat set up it's just rushed IMO.

It's not as bad as say Lost's ending or anything. That one was terrible. Lost's ending came out of no where IMO. GOT's ending makes sense the execution was just poor.

Just finished a two day rabbit hole viewing old battles/clips from GOT. @nvanprooyen you should watch it, even if the critics didn't love the final season. You know how that goes with every show. Plenty of highlights and closure. I would highly recommend it.

I watched episode 2 of House of Dragons because I was at my parents and my dad made me watch it. Never watched Game of Thrones either except for a random episode or two when at my parents. Every time I watch an episode, it always is one of those character development episodes with all dialogue and no actual fighting. I guess it doesn't matter, I would eventually lose interest.
