Fairly even split between those who like the move and those who don't.

The good news is, the New York Jets are definitely going to be the franchise that resurrects Fields' career. We might even see a couple of 300-yard games!

In all seriousness, though, good for him on the contract amount. Absolutely grab that bag. Hope he gets every bit of it.

I kinda doubt the Jets play Fields like Vick, like I would, but I hope they do. If they're going to pocket-pass him, I wouldn't be thrilled as a Jets fan. Still, Justin is very bright, he could do mad development.

I mean, are the Jets actually smart enough to try to make Fields Lamar Jackson-lite?

That's what I always said all along a team would need to do with Fields to get the most out of him and make him successful, but you need a good O-line and a plan and commitment to do that, and I just don't see the Jets being smart enough to execute that plan.

Maybe I'm wrong, but what would give anyone the idea that 99% of these football coaches wouldn't try to make Fields into something he isn't?

Its honestly not a bad move. The Jets are rebuilding anyways. So might as well kick the tires on Justin and see if he can play as a dual threat QB while they formulate a plan for their roster. It buys them a little time so they aren't tied to drafting a QB.

Yep, I highly doubt the Jets will Vick Fields.

You know the story, the Option (RB/QB run or pass) is too predictable and rushing QBs don't last.

Vick's career was not shortened because he was a runner and he lasted at an avg amount of time even including the hounds.

Just like Vick, Fields can throw the ball, it's just about the game plan for that game. But yeah, there seems to be a lack of guts to really commit to it. You mentioned Lamar... I just don't think Fields is the passing QB Jackson is.

There should be no negative in their fanbase.

If he sucks, they tank and get a top QB next year, potentially arch manning. If he's good, they have an additional year of control at a very cheap rate where they can either trade him, keep him, or draft a new QB.

Nothing also stops them from drafting a project qb in the 2nd this year like milroe or dart.

This is one of the smarter moves the jets have done recently as there really isnt any downside to it vs. an alternative. What the steelers are doing on the other hand potentially getting rodgers is absolute worst case scenario for a franchise.

Well, one thing is for sure.. If Fields is good at one thing, it's dividing a fanbase. Did it in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and now NY.

You don't seem to understand that teams know how to defend a rushing threat QB. The reason Justin Fields sucks is because they take away his best asset and force him to be a pocket passer.

This idea that they can simply use his best quality to turn him into a great player or even a good player without defenses doing everything to stop him is just silly. Teams know he's useless in the pocket so they force him to throw from the pocket.

This is why his rushing numbers were down in his final year in Chicago and in Pittsburgh he never got to even 60 yards rushing in a game.

What gives Joe Namath any confidence that their offense will be tailored to Fields' strengths and that they could execute it well? They have a total wild card at OC, and rookie HC.

A big problem with fields though is he just can’t stay healthy. Hes always injured so they can’t play him like Lamar Jackson unless they are ok with him missing half the season

The guy is on his 3rd team and is going to just as bad a toilet bowl for QB’s as Chicago is. I wish him well, not anticipating some major breakthrough. Likely the same ole JF
