I really don't understand how y'all saw the 2023 season.

After the terrible start - Fields started to play pretty damn well and got Eberflused in the Lions game, Broncos game and Cleveland game.

He played smart in 2024 for the Steelers and had a nice 4-2 record with limited turnovers.

The Jets will be a top 5 running team and Wilson will have a career year and they'll be 2nd in that division. There's legit, high end talent on that roster and it was torpedoed by Rodgers and his bullshit.

You don't seem to understand that teams know how to defend a rushing threat QB. The reason Justin Fields sucks is because they take away his best asset and force him to be a pocket passer.

This idea that they can simply use his best quality to turn him into a great player or even a good player without defenses doing everything to stop him is just silly. Teams know he's useless in the pocket so they force him to throw from the pocket.

This is why his rushing numbers were down in his final year in Chicago and in Pittsburgh he never got to even 60 yards rushing in a game.
That is true. But everyone knew how Atlanta was playing Vick for years and they still did very well. "Extra player" on running plays is definitely something. It can be effective if you have the players and variations. I'm certainly not saying you never pass the ball. Watching Vick was pure entertainment.

There should be no negative in their fanbase.

If he sucks, they tank and get a top QB next year, potentially arch manning. If he's good, they have an additional year of control at a very cheap rate where they can either trade him, keep him, or draft a new QB.

Nothing also stops them from drafting a project qb in the 2nd this year like milroe or dart.

This is one of the smarter moves the jets have done recently as there really isnt any downside to it vs. an alternative. What the steelers are doing on the other hand potentially getting rodgers is absolute worst case scenario for a franchise.
Agree on benefits of Fields to the Jets. Lots of options.

ROGERS - For the right team I don't see a ton of downside signing Rogers for the right price. He definitely had a down year last year. Had accuracy problems. But it's hard to say why. Pros have slumps.

The way I see it, Rogers would be a top bridge QB if you're thinking of drafting a QB soon. Maybe 50% chance he has a decent comeback, and if not, he was still better than avg (90.5 rate) last year.

If you hem Lamar Jackson into the pocket and force him to beat you from there, he will.

You can't say that about Justin Fields.
The Chicago Bears under Ryan Poles never had an offensive line capable of creating a pocket consistently for their QB.

Fields did most of his work from the pocket last year with Pittsburgh and in college he stood in the pocket and looked to push the ball down the field.

But if the bar for a successful QB is Lamar Jackson then there's 4 QBs in that tier. The Jets will be a borderline playoff team this year.

Fairly even split between those who like the move and those who don't.

The good news is, the New York Jets are definitely going to be the franchise that resurrects Fields' career. We might even see a couple of 300-yard games!

In all seriousness, though, good for him on the contract amount. Absolutely grab that bag. Hope he gets every bit of it.

That’s low pay for a starting QB. It’s high pay for a back-up Qb

The Jets won’t sniff the playoffs

What's your threshold for "very well" because Vick was a bust by any measure of variables for the number one overall pick. Was he exciting when he ran? Yeah, but they never did very well.

I said they, as in Atl, who went 11-5 and to the NFC Championship game in 2004. I'll take that home as very well.

If Wilson was bitching about Rodgers, he’s not going to like Fields either. I remember a rumor that the Steelers receivers asked the coaching staff to replace fields. I gave Fields every chance possible. I even remember saying that if he beat Green Bay, we should keep him and draft Harrison Jr. He can’t pass like an nfl qb. He can’t throw receivers open. He can run the ball and he has a nice deep ball. That’s about it. You can’t build a strong NFL offense with that as qb.

We went to the Super Bowl with Rex Grossman. So, I guess Vick is not as good as Rex Grossman.

Sure, but I'm addressing the people who keep saying, "Man, they just need to use Fields the way Baltimore uses Lamar Jackson!"

A QB like Lamar Jackson is very talented, but not where it counts the most for a qb. Having the option to ditch the pocket for a gain before the play develops ultimately hurts your ability to pass over time. QBs like Jackson don’t really navigate the pocket until the last moment to get a pass off while getting hit that would get a big chunk. You need that against good teams that can contain Lamar Jackson’s running ability. Fields is the same. Someone like Russell Wilson is the type of running QB you want. Sure, in his prime he practically lived outside the pocket, but he was outside the pocket buying time while the play develops. The “Lamar Jackson” system that everyone wants fields to run isn’t going to fool elite defenses and Fields isn’t near as good of a passer as Lamar Jackson is, especially in the short and intermediate routes. It’d be interesting to see fields in that ravens offense though. You have to figure he makes a stop there as a back up before he retires.
