everyone should at least be able to do brakes. If you found out how easy they are (especially 4 wheel disc)... I just cant imagine paying 400 bucks for that shit.

I've said this before as well. The argument I've most often heard is that people are afraid of messing them up and then they won't be able to STOP. As opposed to messing up literally anything else with the car and then they can't GO. It sort of makes sense I guess.

Although there have been a few times where I'm out working on my car in below freezing weather wondering if it wouldn't be worth it to just pay someone to do the job while I sit in my nice warm house instead.

Pretty terrible. I don't even know how to check my oil! lmao

It would literally take you longer to google "how do I check my oil" than to actually check it.

They should really include these types of things as part of the test to get your DL. If you can't do something that simple, I wonder if you should be driving at all.

Pretty sure like 90% of Women would not be allowed to get their DL then lol... maybe the numbers are a little better than that, but I personally know no women in my life who can do anything besides start and drive their cars.

My sister was like 20 and I was like 13 and she asked me to check/change the oil in her car even though I had never driven before... but yeah I checked her oil for her, and sent her to Jiffy Lube down the street.

I did a year or so of mechanic work back in the late 80's. Didn't like it very much, but it has saved me a lot of money being able to do the everyday repairs and maintenance myself.

Just had my fronts done, mechanic only charged 80 bucks in labor...well worth it considering the alternative of buying the proper jack/mechanics tools needed plus time it takes to remove/reinstall tires w/o an air wrench etc. And yes, I made sure he removed, cleaned, and re-greased those caliper parts.

That's one thing mechanics fail to do a lot, which of course burns out rotors and pads in a hurry.

Asked me to change her oil.... when I was 13 lol.... I said "I can't change your oil, you need to go to an oil change place" and she said "Like what place.... where?" and I knew Jiffy Lube from having rode by it as a passenger.... it was the only thing I could recommend lol. I was 13.... gimme a break :D

Fixing shit on the car and around the house is like one of the only things that makes me not feel useless. Could be the only masculine pride I have left.
