A lot of people I know say they need only 4-6.

That's insanity to me. I need at least 8, but try to fit in 9 when I can.

It's a pain in the ass though, since I need to wake up at 5 for work... so I'm always in bed by like 8:30-9 hahaha.

Even if I had the day off the next day I’m sleepikg only 3-6 hours and have a normal day. Only time I can sleep longer is if I binge drink the night before at my age I can’t handle the side effects anymore lol

depends on the functions needed.

i can get by on 2-3 for a couple/few weeks until i start seriously snapping at bs..
4-6 for months on end..
i do eventually need a 12-18 hr sleep at some point though to reset me mentals.. just hit my all time long and slept 21 hours after only getting 4 hrs of sleeps in 5 days.

i no longer sleep in a bed.. da wife didnt like da idea but sleeps better herself.. cause i snore something fierce. ive been sleeping in a recliner for the past year.. not fully reclined back either.. i find i slept better and recover faster for some reason.. cant explain it but waking up afta 6 hrs in da chair feels like 8-10 in a bed..

I can and usually do function on 4-5 hours per night but I like to have 1 or 2 days in the week in which I get about 7.

Since you sleep so little, do you nap at all?

Not at all Day is pretty full so no time to nap.

I don’t think it’s not that I don’t like to sleep but my sleep gets derailed way too easily. My ears are like hawks any slight noise and my adrenaline goes up and I’m up and sleep time is over. Then it’s getting up to take a leak and there goes that nights sleep. It’s impossible to go back to sleep.

Naps are a no go. If my morning is off I go to the gym then come home eat and go to work until late. If I work in the morning I get home go to gym then eat and Day is pretty much done. Then there is my nephews and niece I spend time with so really no time for naps either.

Depends. If I'm actively exercising on a daily basis, I can do 3-5 a night. If I go into lazy mode for a few weeks, I need 6 minimum.

Once you learn how to sleep standing up, it's a game changer.

Is that because of your kids or something or is that all you're able to sleep? Sorry, didn't see your reply until I posted.

Damn that blows. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, so I don't have that problem.

If you are able to function normally, good for you then, I guess hahaah. More time to get stuff done.

Wait, you sleep less when you exercise regularly? Wouldn't your body need more rest since your muscles have been worked? hahaha

It really varies from me. But I noticed that the older I get, the more I value sleep. I would say the average is in bed around 11, and then up about 6. But sometimes it's a lot less than that, I'll wake up at 4 a.m. and not be able to fall back asleep. And sometimes I don't want to get out of bed until like 8 or 9. But I'd say the average is probably around 7 hours.

I can 'function' on 4-5 hours. I prefer to get between 6-7 though. Only way I am sleeping longer then 8+ hours is if I get plastered the night before.

I used to be a 6 hour guy, when I was younger. I now aim for 8, but often can't make it, again likely due to age.

One thing I do now though, is I never go to bed right after turning a screen off. I make going to bed a ritual, and usually read or do a bit of writing before the lights go out. And I have a red light in the bathroom for those late night trips. Blue light is bad for your sleep patterns, and can **** you up.

Recovery in all facets is not measured by time, but more quality of sleep. When you work out more, your body goes into a deeper cycle quicker, your recovery momentum is higher, and you're rested sooner. Plus, everything is healthier in your system as well, it's like one giant multiplier.

One of the best things an insomniac can do, add some cardio to their life.

Oh man, I might try that red light in the bathroom trick.

I definitely can relate to the quality of sleep while working out. But for me it's still a solid 6 or 7 hours that I need to feel good. What I do notice is I'm much more energetic when waking up in the morning when I'm working out versus not.

Yeah I function perfectly normal. I still have the same energy as I had in my 20s if not more. My barriers are more things I can’t do like before like party multiple nights in a row, certain workouts I can’t do anymore, stuff like that

7-9 hours is around what you're supposed to get. I get probably 6.5-7 on weekdays, and can feel a bit tired towards the evening. Weekends i'm usually around 9-10, play a little catchup.

I can function on 4-5 for a few days maybe(3 at the absolute most), but at some point I crash. That's just not healthy in any sense.
