I function well in 4-6 hours. I worked shift work for 12 years though. During graveyard shift I would sleep for 3 hours soon as I got home and get up for the day and then sleep 3 hours again before work.

Depends. If I'm actively exercising on a daily basis, I can do 3-5 a night. If I go into lazy mode for a few weeks, I need 6 minimum.

Once you learn how to sleep standing up, it's a game changer.

i tried a homemade vertical board once but couldn't find the right angle without slipping and i didnt feel safe.. but i find sleeping vertically in me recliner to b a decent compromise.. monks have been known to sleep vertically.. its where i got me idea..

it easily takes away the neck pain i pick up from sitting in front of a puter all day.. back is better.. i never wake up with a stiff neck or back.... no more numb or hurt shoulders from sleeping on them on a flat surface...though i do miss a flat surface here and there and will relax on our bed during the day..

initially i saw a spike in energy week one and was fairly sold..i must go into deep rem quicker.. idk.. dreams returned.. well i could actually remember my dreams that somewhere along the way i lost the ability to recall such things...... missing the comfort of our bed i slept in it one night and felt like shit when i woke the next day and became a true vertical sleeper convert.. bought a comfy oversized recliner for me office and thats where i sleep.

also, if anyone has sleep apnea id highly recommend it..

Not gonna complain while I can sleep through the night w/o getting up to piss, that routine would/will get really old one day.

I agree about recliner sleeping. It's definitely helped me in the past.

7-9 hours is an average. But it's like a bell curve. Some people need more, some less.

I usually go to bed around midnight and wake up around 6:30. But it takes me a while to fall asleep and sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night. I would say that on average, I get 5-6 a night. Weekends slightly longer.

Tough to say. I wake up a lot more at night with my 3 year old waking up often. I probably average about 6-7 with a half hour to an hour interruption on lots of nights.

To function normally I'd say I need 5-6 consistently.

7 is good, I can get by on 3-4, but not a bunch of those in a row. Also, drinking is a factor, that ups the minimum to 8 and the preferred to 12. If I have something to do at 8AM I can not be drinking at 2AM, in the old days yes, not now.

I didn't know this was a thing.

When I said learn to sleep while standing up, I meant more sleep while you're waiting or in line somewhere.

I can feel normal for most of the day on 4. I like to get 6-7.

I feel like 8+ hours would be amazing lol but I can't pull it off

For all you people that get 8 hours of sleep and don't feel well rested, I recommend you drink more water. You should drink a glass first thing when you wake up and it will help.

I shoot for 8... but I am probably 6.5-7 on a regular week night.

Saturday/Sunday I usually sleep 8-9.

I do the same I am like 10 hours on the weekdays and 6 on the weekend. Maybe that is a dreading going to work thing though or leaving the house or something. Not sure.

With me I think it's because I get too excited about the possibility of sleeping in late.
Ironic, but it gets me EVERY Saturday, my eyes just pop open at like 6.

I used to live by the motto: I want to use as many hours in each day possible. The problem I had with that is that when you are functioning half cocked you do not get the amount of shit done as you do in half the time after a good nights sleep.
