I’ll echo what a few others have said, he’s only going to be worth top tier $$ if he truly has improved his pass catching. If he has improved that then he will have to be in the conversation for a big payday.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
We're not paying a RB 12 million. As much as I like Jordan Howard, and as much as I hope we have a running game, RBs just aren't as valuable as they once were.

howard is not a todd gurley who is getting aav of 14 mill a year. At best i think howard gets 10 mill and thats if his pass catching improves substantially.

Honest answer? It probably does not matter because he plays a replaceable position and I cannot see them paying him top level money.

My guess would be between 9-10 million/year.

My guess is one of 2 things...

1-he struggles in the offense and is traded next year
2-his contract runs out and we low ball him

I’m good with either.

Howard is as good as gone. Pace isn't investing big money in a RB. He'd be stupid to do that especially with a back who is not what the Bears need in this offense. Howard is a great player who will go play elsewhere.

Without reading the 2nd & 3rd pages I'll respond to these for now.

Most of that discussion will be based on this years performance.
Yep.

I wouldn't waste a 2nd on a running back.

If he leaves then I would.

Tough to say. Pace likes to reward his own guys and prove to the locker room that they do that. He touches the ball more than anyone beyond the Center and Mitch. Dude's a beast & if his catching improves he'll be top 3 overall. That'll make his value explode. It'll be up to Howard on whether he gives the hometown discount or not, but I doubt he gets PAID BIG TIME with the rest of the roster needing 1-ups around then too.

Likely he'll be offered a reasonable but lower extension early, then either take it or be allowed to test the market, possibly get tagged for a year, then go FA & either sign or go to highest bidder. That's what I'd do with him. Up to him either way, which is reasonable.

I will say that it's possible he is traded for a decent pick IF it looks like he'd prefer to hit FA market. Can't see them letting him go for nothing. Interesting how it plays out but this is entirely based on expected continued dominance. Anything less, he gone or signed on the cheap, shorter-term prove it deal.

I'd like to keep Howard but if he thinks he's a top priority then I'll gladly let him go. It's a passing league.

Love me some Howard, but pretty much this. Nagy will identify a back in the draft that is perfect for his scheme and we should take that back in 2019 or 2020.
