How the hell did we make it to the NFC championship game in 2010?

That play still pissed me off. Of all player to run it too. Earl Bennett. Damn. They had Devin Hester and Johnny Knox to run. Two of the fastest men in the league. WTF

Can you show me the last time hester had positive yardage out of a fake reverse, end-around, or zero route? That said, I agree. That was a horrific example of martz being cutesy-poo at the worst possible moment

Lovie Smith is going to have the opportunity at a lot of good situations next year. He will be a head coaching candidate, he has made a couple successful teams.

Assuming if these teams do poorly:
Carolina- If the panthers dont do well this year Lovie could have a crack at using his defense and finding an OC that lets Cam newton run wherever he wants.
Minn- Getting into the playoffs this year is the only thing that would save Leslie Frazier this year. His defense is crumbling and he doesnt know what a QB looks like. Enter Lovie Smith, who has a successful model defense that also doesnt know what a QB looks like.
Dallas- Jason Garrett wont survive if he cant win this year. They cant blame Romo after signing him to a big contract. Dallas has some good receivers and they can draft a decent QB high next year.
Pitt- They have sucked for a few years now, it might be a new start in an old franchise. History of winning on defense and strong running with streaks of decent passing, which is what Lovie strives for. This would be a surprisingly good fit, and I would be scared of what he would do with a 34 cover 2 D with disguised blitz packages.
Arizona- because I hear that its a great retirement community

Forte had a nice rebound after in 2010 after being hobbled in 2009, but 2011 was Forte's best year of his career by far which was eventually cut short.

Was it 2011 where he was something ridiculous in terms of total yards from scrimmage? I was thinking the first year Martz was here he used Forte a ton and Forte was a legit contender for MVP at the start of the season but it could be 2011.

According to some they only played scrub QBs throughout the season.

im watching NFL rewind and the oline is so bad. i watched OMiyale, Kruetz and Webb all get pushed into Cutler at the same time lol.

Sort of the with the same recipe they used to go on a five game win streak in 2011. In 2010 after D'Angelo Hall became Cutlers #1 WR, Martz scaled the passing game back & balanced it out with Forte in the running game.

Marinelli also blitzed Urlacher who had 4 sacks, behind Adams who only had 2 sacks & Toe who had 2 sacks, more than usual, or at least what we were used to seeing in recent years. The Bears didn't have a 3 tech for the system worth talking about so Marinelli did have to find different ways to create pressure, production, up the middle, & eliminate the interior of the pocket so QB's couldn't step up.

IMO, in 2010 Urlacher ended up having one of his best years, if not one of his most complete seasons in a Bears uniform in 2010, along with 2000 - 2002, & 2007.

The man must have been doing something right. Had home field throughout the playoffs, and this despite as people said a bad offensive line. Actually had home field throughout a couple of Lovie years. I think one year the last 2 games didn't even matter, already clinched it. Had some really great years. I hope we can get to that level again at some point, maybe this year, who knows.

Yup. Three playoff years under Lovie.

2005 2nd seed
2006 1st seed
2010 2nd seed

And Gould's previous long kick was 57 yards. He hit his last 9 50+ yarders under Lovie. It was only the first three seasons when Gould was not attempting the long FGs.

You're forgetting the fact that Pittsburgh doesn't fire head coaches. Ever. And I mean ever. They've had 3 in the last 44 years.

Truth right there.

And we had a bye and then faced a horrible seahawks team that upset New Orleans. I think that was the year they won the division at 7-9?

Truth be told, look at Lovie's record vs teams 6-10 and worse, 7-9 to 9-7, and vs playoff contenders that finish the regular season 10-6 or better.

You'd find his teams and defenses killed the horrible teams, broke exactly even with the 7-9 to 9-7 teams, and got DESTROYED by teams 10-6 or better.

Then look at the scedules the Bears have had and see how they played and destroyed a bunch of bad teams, and then would have 3-4 playoff-bound teams per season and get KILLED by them.

Its a recipe for being mediocre.

I'd hire Lovie any day of the week for Defensive coordinator, but Never as a head coach who has some say over personnel moves.

Yeah...it was 2011. That season Forte had almost 1500 yards from scrimmage in twelve games...was on pace for 2000 all purpose yards had he played all 16 games. Combine that with AP going down ugly and Forte gets his only Pro Bowl selection.

That play has burned itself into my memory. I don't even need to look it up, I remember it vividly. Game on the line and you go with a gimmick play featuring Earl fucking Bennett. Holy shit.

Nothing against Bennett by the way, I like him for what he is, but he should NEVER be taking handoffs.

I recall that only one guy missed a block or it was off to the races . It was a ballsy call and damn near worked.
