I have been dealing with anxiety & depression lately. What do you guys do to keep happy? How do you stay out of your own head? It seems like mental health is taboo, we need to be more open about it.

Exercise goes a long way to making life better. Excuses go a long way to making life worse.

And yes, people do need to be able to discuss these things seriously without agendas and all the noise that makes it hard for people to use communities for help. A whole generation of consumerism just shouts to others, 'just go to the ____ for help' and further sweeps it under the rug.

Donate some time to those in need. See a concert in a beautiful venue. Break bread with an old friend or forgotten about family member. Ask for a happy ending at the most Chinese massage parlour you can find.

Gain perspective.

I would be so much happier if I could just pay for a woman rather than having to maintain one full time.

Anyway, Crys is on to something with working out. Also have a hobby that requires some mental focus and continually improve.

first be positive I am a very happy person when ive had every reason to be a pessimistic depressed tardo

I grew up poor af
abandoned first to single parenthood and then even no parenthood and dumped onto my elderly grandparents
I made poor decisions got into drugs had all the issues that came along with with that.

having those bad beginning gave me every chance to make excuses point blame be depressed and even angry.

its really choice I didn't choose to point fingers I didn't choose to look on the darker side of thing I didn't choose to look at a glass of water and say it was half empty. I chose to smile enjoy life and take personal responsibility to make things better for myself

feeling happy is about making those choices over and over to think positively and set goals and be responsible for your own happiness and life

its all about you yourself making a conscious choice to make a difference in your own life and not falling into the trap of a "woe is me "mentality at least that's my opinions on the matter

I usually just drink until I fall asleep and then I get up and go back to fucking work.

Shit yeah, I love those lunch breaks

All(most) kidding aside, there has been a lot of interesting developments with treating anxiety and depression(bunch of other shit too) with probiotics and creating a healthy microbiome.

An even more fun way is with psilocybin mushrooms and other hallucinogens. It's working more effectively than psych meds for a lot of veterans too

I have a newborn in the house so I'm too sleep deprived to be depressed. Sorry I couldn't share some personal stories...

I see what you're saying, on one hand it's hard to ask communities for help, but on the other hand the communities should stop offering help.

Bottom line, no help. Bootstraps. Solid post.

The exercise post is a very good one. If you could get your mind off of what's bothering you then that would help. It's very important to have positive things that keep you from ruminating, that way you can think about the problem more logically.

But usually as long as you don't water the weeds of depression they won't grow.

1) Find something new that you would like to do
2) stop yourself from ruminating
3) occupy yourself with more cheerful things

Now of course if there is a problem that you need to deal with then deal with it, but if it's just some mental BS then just occupying your mind with more cheerful things should help. Just my suggestions here.

Feel free discussing it here. Guys may crack jokes but they're very supportive, I found out first hand.

Also you need a hobby, something you really like doing and looking forward to it should help pick you up. It works for me.
