Hey guys. Looking for advice on how to handle my micromanaging, condescending boss. My motivation is shot, why would I want to work for someone that is rude and doesn't value my work and value.

Could use a bit more detail... how is he perceived/respected by the leadership above you/him?

How vital are you, truthfully in your role?

And how good are you at your job, truthfully?

If you are good and they know you are good and/or you are vital and they know you are vital.... find another job offer, any job offer really.... put in your resignation, and then if you want to stick around, make it known to the upper management above your boss that he is the reason you don't want to work there, but you would consider a counter offer if it involved not working for him.

I had an awful boss for my first boss, he was not well liked, he was shitty to me, and once I resigned, suddenly leadership above and around him who didn't like him were wanting to talk to me and I got counter offered for more money to work under a different boss who was much better.

If you don't have the leverage to pull this kinda thing off, then you may just need to move on to a new employer.... either way I would be looking for a new offer to get out or for leverage to get myself out from under this manager.

Depends on the situation. If the boss and situation is so bad to the point that my motivation is shot, quality of life is going down, drained etc....I'd put in my two week notice. Don't burn any bridges, step away amicably, and maybe if you're valued enough, he'll try to get you to stick around.

You have to do what makes you happy. Sometime change is the best thing...sometimes you just have to suck it up. There's a lot of factors that go into it.

Answer is simple. Change jobs. I get it, job hunting sucks balls, but there are to many companies out there searching for talent to be in a situation that you don't like.

I agree with Ares.
There needs to be more details.
I too have a shit boss, but I deal. I also see some of the shit people my boss manages, and they're just as garbage as she is.

I have a pretty amazing job, so I deal with the stupidity and use it to my advantage.
It just sucks that some of us have to deal with middle management that's only there to aggravate, rather than lead.

Could use a bit more detail... how is he perceived/respected by the leadership above you/him? She's is well liked by our director, who is also a female. All other employees dislike her, she has managed 3 different teams with very high employee turnover.

How vital are you, truthfully in your role? I believe I am vital, but could be biased. I work for a Fortune 500 company and am one of two employees that do what I do.

And how good are you at your job, truthfully? I am good at my job admitably my work product has probably suffered recently because I am pretty unhappy and unmotivated.

I would love to just walk out and tell her to **** off but that's not how life works. I have been searching for new roles and have had a few interviews but those have not resulted in offers.

FTR I went from working under a shitty manager 5 years ago, to working under a much better one, to being promoted to Manager working for a Director that is the best boss I could imagine.

So I have gotten perspective on like all levels of this situation over the last 5 years.... shitty manager, decent manager, good manager.... me being entry level -> experienced -> team lead -> manager and I've dealt with "leaders" at various levels with me at various levels.

I loathe shitty leadership and/or leadership that is apathetic/absentee to its' workers... I can and have gone toe-to-to with other managers, directors, and even senior VP leaders to protect my team and I never ask them to do anything I cannot understand/explain/perform myself if the need arises. I lead by example and I follow thru when I say I will push back for the good of the team.

All that being said I do expect alot of my team and I will chew them out if they don't do their job well.... Clone works for me lol he can attest.

**** that. I blow them bridges up. Except for the bosses I genuinely liked. Usually I moved on because of a better job (more money). Everyone else, I've gone out with a bang.

I am a sexist sack of shit lol I assumed your boss was a dude.

All other employees dislike her.... but her boss likes her.... how do other managers/directors think of her?

I mean if you are a director and you have a manager reporting to you, you kind of have to like/support them even if they are shitty because most likely you hired them into that role and they are a reflection of you. If other leadership dislikes this manager and/or her boss... might be worth sniffing around for any opportunity under other leadership within the company and just say you want to grow your skillset... grow beyond the role you're in... it is hard for a boss to justify not letting you move around the company, and if she doesn't, then you know you have leverage because you are vital/talented enough that they are willing to take a hit on not letting you grow and exposing that to other employees to keep you in your role.

I know that is one thing that stuck me... I had a talented team member get coaxed into moving to another team to grow and there was nothing I could do to stop it or we would look bad.

Could use a bit more detail...if your boss is a female, hot or not?

she is a female, pretty sure she is a feminist. Not hot but not unattractive. My director is also a female and a feminist, there is some serious nepotism going on here. It seems like only females get promoted or move up.

LOL, that happened when I worked in retail, but it was because the manager was a perv and a half. Laziest fucking piece of shit I ever worked for. Kept dragging his feet to put me in pharmacy, but would give it to the girls immediately. Then, I told him I wanted an open supervisor position but he didn't want to pay me shit. I flat out turned him down and told him if it wasn't worth moving up there, I was out. Found another job and dipped with one day notice. Found out he was fired for sexual harassment.

There are really two options here. Stay and continue to be miserable or leave for greener pastures. I'd shoot for the latter, we spend to much time at work as it is so you might as well be in an environment that is enjoyable. You could always try and bring up the issues with her, but this will likely just shed negative light on yourself in the company.

Start complaining about Patriarchy within her earshot, and wear a pussy hat next casual Friday.

Then when she asks where you got the hat, tell her you ordered it from pussyhat.com
