Katrina was a 5 and became a 4/3 when it hit. Katrina was a monster that covered most of the Gulf of Mexico with a giant eye. It was an extremely well formed storm. It didnt just break up when it hit land. It covered and just sent tidal surge after tidal surge. There have been stronger storms than Katrina, but the sure mass with strength made it nasty.

I truly hope you are right. Watching the news they are making it sound like the entire east coastal area is going to be devastated.

Were you there when Katrina hit?

I went to Alexandria, LA. My house got 4 feet of water, but it wasnt that bad. The water came in and went out. New Orleans houses had the water just in there houses for weeks. I had friends stay. I have seen home videos and its some of the scariest sounds you will ever hear.

Depends if it stays inland or not. If trajectory takes it more towards New Orleans then it will probably continue to weaken. If it pivots more towards NC and gets back over the Atlantic it may pick up more MPH as it's only about 5-7 miles below the threshold for category 5.

Basically the more warm water it is over the more likely for it to regain strength.

New Orleans? I don't think I've seen a single storm track plotting it entering the Gulf.

Was the suppose to be will instead of well? Either way, if we combine forces. We can bring all the hurricanes our way. Double the plump.

I didn't mean that it was tracking there. I was discussing a hypothetical ie that generally speaking a hurricane can strengthen when it remains largely over warm water and there is a lot more potentially warm water if it stays on the coast than if it goes over land and heads towards NO.
