Fox is 60. He's not 112 years old. He's 60. Pete Carroll took over the Seahawks when he was 58, rebuilt the entire roster and won a Super Bowl within 4 years. Arians was 60 when he took the Arizona job. Coughlin was 65 when the Giants won in 2012.

Fox didn't come here to make people feel special. He came here to win a championship.

I didn't say my theory was a good one.

I have the same fear, but I don't know if Gase is ready for a head-coaching job. Some people are better coordinators because they don't have to worry about the other side of the ball.

yep, like the Lovester.

With a 1-3 record I'm not worried about our coordinators leaving anytime soon. If they miraculously get the Bears to a .500 record they might get some looks but not until they are at that point.

Just curious, how often do coordinators get interviewed for head coaching positions when their team was just mediocre? It just seems most people here are not expecting the Bears to make the playoffs, and yet there's fear that the coordinators will get HC positions else where with a bad-mediocre finish. I'm not suggesting this isn't possible, but I would love some historical context.

Mike McCarthy was the 49ers OC in 2005 and despite the team going 4-12 with the last ranked O in the league the packers hired him as their next HC.

Thus far, Gase hasn't impressed me but Fangio has.

well, gase is rather handicapped with having to design and call an O thats centered around pre snap reads and/or shrinking the field all so that cutler can function somewhat efficiently. with that said theres clearly some good design going on and with a QB he could trust I think hed be excellent. yeah, he had peyton, but im guessing peyton didnt really need his help all that much.

This is the last thing you need to fear. If I had to pick Fox's greatest strength t is building a staff. Don't forget we only know who Gase is because the first OC their in Denver now coaches the Chargers. We will be fine.

Mediocre with talent means no job. Mediocre with no talent means promotion.

I fear spiders, fat bitches sitting on my face and suffocating me to death, being rolled up like a burrito in a blanket, and farts after eating Taco Bell.

Well, IF the plan is to have Gase take the reins in a couple of years, and he is aware of it, then common sense would say that he stays put. He would have a leg up on building a successful team as a HC, as his offense, and DC will have been in place 2 years prior to him getting the position. Additionally, he will have been able to give input on personnel for those same 2 years prior to the job being his. He will be well familiar with his players, and they him. Whereas if he came into a new team, odds are, it will be in a similar mess as to what he had after Trestman and Emery were booted. He would have to start from scratch, and get his players to buy into him.

Make Fangio assistant head coach and that 'concern' is squashed.
