What's your problem, Shit for Brains?

How have I been proven full of shit on this topic? I told you my experience working with Macs and then I told you my experience working with PCs. Sorry that you don't like the Mac operating system or that the dock scares you.

Are you saying that buying Microsoft based products give you personality? Are you fucked in the head?

Seeing as how I spend 8-10 hours a day using variations of Linux/Unix before coming home and using Windows and Linux boxes I'm pretty platform agnostic.

I didn't "prove" shit but I seem to remember you getting laughed at on the CBMB because people dug up you needing help to fix your broken OSX systems online.

If you aren't aware of "The Cult of Mac" and why people laugh about it, then that's on you.

As far as the litigious nature of Apple, their track record speaks for itself. Your statement about Microsoft suing everyone under the sun is also laughable, look at the volume of lawsuits from MS, vs other tech giants like Apple or Oracle, or whoever else.

By the way, MS deserves PLENTY of criticism for lots of things, but them throwing their dick around and suing competitors is not one of them (comparatively)

Fine. I think I admitted in this thread that I have had to use apple support. And I think I found the answer to my previous problem on the internet right after I posted that. So what?

I never said Apple was perfect. Some of the past problems I have had with computers was attributable to my own user problems. But I have had 5% of the problems with apple than I ever did with PCs/Microsoft.

See, your life revolves around working with and fixing computer related problems. I admire people that can do that. But that's not my area of expertise in life nor do I care to invest the time in it. My area of expertise is solving customer business problems through technology and services, doesn't mean I have to understand how to program or configure the shit.

Now, don't force me to say something mean to you

I was about to ask you if you knew "Turning Japanese" was about masturbation, but I did some fact checking first to see if that was actually true before I said it (something I've heard come up in conversation a few times) and ran into this interesting write up by Cracked:

http://www.cracked.com/article_19454_5-famous-hidden-song-meanings-that-are-total-b.s._p1.html

Lol, either way, salient or not, the point stands.

And Apple's products are very nicely designed and made. They feel nice in the hands and are very intuitive products. Both sides have their problems. Both can get the job done. I don't really have a preference when it comes to actually using the things, but I am a strong supporter of open source and use Linux mostly. I always disliked MS's proprietary nature, but Apple puts them to shame in that department.

The dependability argument is a wash. Both have their horror stories.

I still think Apple is the Gucci of the computer world and a swizz in the end, but to each his own.

If someone offered me a macbook pro, I'd accept it graciously and likely use it constantly while attempting to fight the urge to use it in an overly conspicuous manner.

I run all standards(Linux, Amiga, OSX, OS8/9, Windows). You'll like Mac until your favorite software gets deserted(or rebuilt while retaining the same name, but is actually worse off.) I'm more "meh" with the Mac hype. It's awesome to use different OSes and see how differently things are done, but OSX borrowed so much from Linux software that I was already familiar with, and the Linux versions were still far superior. For example, Konqueror is superior to Safari, which it cloned, and all of the libraries(universal extensions that are used to execute all code) were always about a year ahead of Apple's blessing/porting. So objectively, how can I like Mac over Linux, when Linux is flat out better for performance, compatibility, largest software collection(unless I use the Apple Jacks line -- "How can you like apple jacks if they don't taste like apples? We just do... no reason.")

I just make this point, because the trend of long-time Mac users that switch to Linux has been growing excessively.

Currently, I'm VP Sales for a company that does Sharepoint and SAP implementations and AMO. Never worked for CDW

Personally, I think Apple makes good computers...but for the normal person, the cost is difficult to justify when you can get a $200 Compaq laptop from the Walmartz, and do everything you need it to do.

Quite true. Apple's kinda grown on me too though w/the iphone, ipad and what not. Also, like the OP, my wife got a MacBook Pro from her work and I mess around with that from time to time. Still things I really don't like about Apple but their products are top quality.

What'll be really curious, in regard to Linux, is what Valve does with their "Steam Box" console. Curious to see what happens when a Linux HTPC is sitting in more people's living rooms.

Yikes. You are bringing back bad memories for me. Sitting in a room for weeks on end doing business process stuff for a SAP implementation...that we ended up not even doing. What a colossal waste of time that was.

So, I'm being courted by a company that has a software product that consolidates and reduces the need for ABAP coding by 90%. From the demo I have seen it's pretty impressive and they tell me that customers make up their mind in the first 15 minutes of the demonstration

That sounds pretty sweet. Good deal for you if it's that easy to close (if they aren't bullshitting you anyways). Gonna do it? Happen to know anything about OpenERP? I'm an e-commerce dude and was looking at implementing it with Magento on a few things down the road a little.

I'm no expert on ERP solutions. But here is my HUMBLE opinion on Enterprise software:

-If you are a small company and have the resources then you can work with an Open source package. Great makes it customizable for your needs

-But you lose something when you move away from the big names like SAP, MS and Oracle and that's vision into the future. Like Gretzky once said, he is not going to where the puck is now but where it will be. That means that the world of computing is changing so fast that you need to be tied to visionaries and companies that can bring the best minds and ideas in the world to you and consult with you on where you want to be in 5-10 years (these are the kinds of debates I have with CIO and CEOs all the time)

So, can your staff do that? I doubt it and that's the issue with opensource

People say Macs are reliable. Well no shit! If you are charging over $2,000 for a laptop then it better be reliable. I have an Asus laptop over 4 years old. Cost $550 and has performed flawlessly. If people would stop buying Dells, HP, Compaq, Gateway, and other shitty brands then they'll think differently about PCs. Stick with Asus, Sony, and Toshiba and you'll be gold.

I'd make the argument that huge organizations are generally slower to innovate, because of all of the bureaucracy. Smaller companies have the ability to be nimble because it doesn't take 50 meetings and an act of God to shift directions and execute. Not only talking about the ERP stuff here, just a general observation.

I love having a terminal window instead of having to fire up Putty. Also found a code editor (Coda) that I am absolutely in love with. OS X is definitely an interface that is very user friendly, but for a more advanced user... I am really loving it on that end of things as well. And OMG, the display. Unbelievable.

I love coda. Went ahead and bought it myself to use at work (and home). Also grew up on Macs
