NFL sponsors don't like that. There would be fines and maybe draft pick taken away. Fields, along with the other starters, would have to be shutdown due to an "injury".
Shutting down an injured play is not tanking. Fields has been showing signs of cumulative hit fatigue. Cramping up in 30 degree weather needing IV fluids is not normal under those conditions. The guy is a fitness nut , so even his well taken care of body is starting to reject the rigors of this season.

As for the others on offense, there isn't a single player that isn't deserving of benching. Trying a different guy isn't tanking any more than trading Quinn, Mack and Roquan is. Hell, they might find better players that just needed an opportunity( i.e.Jack Sanborn).

I get that, but you have to be careful what you are portraying. You don't want to have an impromptu sit down with your owners when 3,000 ppl show up to a blackedout "Josh Allen to Diggs v Nathan Pederman to Simba Webster" game. Fans want to see Fields, Fields wants to see the Field. Your pissing off everyone involved but CCS tankers.

I think they tried to shut him down after he injured his shoulder but fields kind of torpedoed that in the media saying he’s fine. They would need a legit reason to do it now can’t just shut down a player for no reason

The cost benefit ratio of playing Justin Fields with an ever more depleted offense that started at near league worst talented is leaning heavily towards the negative.

At what point should Poles just hold a presser and say, "We feel that Justin has proved everything he has needed to prove this season and the cumulative wear and tear on his body this season has reached a point where he needs to shut it down. We will be also be employing this perspective with many of our veteran players, and plan to get some meaningful reps the next 3 weeks for our younger players."

Bench Whitehair, Rieff, Schofield, Monty get rookie/young OL and WR's with Peterman and Evans Ebner in the backfield. Shut down Jaylon Johnson, and maybe even Brisker and Gordon with a game or 2 left, get Hicks, Jones some more work at DB.

What would help this team more than getting a look at what depth you may have on both sides of the ball while allowing the coaches to coach to win, without actually having a chance, and preserving your draft capital?
You play the guy if he is not injured, he needs the reps and more reps. You don't play this game worrying about injuries.

Not sure they have enough healthy bodies to do this.

They're just arbitrarily going to take draft picks away?

These are paid athletes. I wager a slew of them got bonuses attached. Catches, Tackles, Starts, Yards, Picks, Sacks, Records, etc etc.

Justin was already asked about a record and he seemed amped to go for it. So yea, not happening boo

Imagine if teams actually did this and only three or four teams actually took the NFL serious in any given year man that would make for some boring football.
I disagree. Watching two teams actively trying to lose would be pretty hilarious.

The Chicago Bears play three teams that are either fighting for a playoff position or are fighting for seeding within the playoffs. The NFL would definitely frown heavily on the deliberate tanking of three games, and make no mistake about it, the scenario that you laid out would clearly and rightfully be viewed as tanking. A player or two sitting out with injury is one thing, but having that many players sit out would be blatant. Vegas would be angry. The other teams would be angry, and the integrity of the game would be challenged. I could see the NFL stripping us of the pic or moving us down to the end around one round one

The only game the Bears have to worry about losing even with their current starters playing is the Vikings in Week 18. They are not beating the Bills lol no matter who plays. And the Lions game is on the road against a team that is red hot.

Vikings are going to sit their players and that is a real problem. That game is a toss up.

Yeah it's not like 27 of the 32 teams aren't still playoff eligible with 3 weeks to play.

3 or 4 teams take the season serious any given year?

Talk about a hyperbolic shitty take.

In decades of watching football, I've never seen this happen with 3 weeks to go.

Some playoff bound teams pull starters in the last half of the last game when the score is out of hand.
we all know this isn't true

Tanking is stupid and unfair to the players who only have a finite amount of time and any game could be the last.

Yeah I doubt Fields runs this much ever again so if he wants to get in the record books, this is the year to do it. As the team gets better around him he will be able to pick his spots and run less.

What do you not understand? Protecting your franchise QB that isn't 100% from backups that backed up already shitty lineman and giving young guys a shot is not tanking. It is optimizing the use of your remaining games for the betterment of your franchises future with the added side effect of them being less likely to win a meaningless game costing the franchise future assets.

What player is currently 100% healthy and/or is beyond the reproach of benching worthy play?

No one is saying players should take a dive on the field.

Threaten NFL money and see what happens. Fields is earning them a shit ton.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the Miami Dolphins will forfeit their 2023 first-round draft pick and 2024 third-round pick, while team owner Stephen Ross has been suspended through Oct. 17, following an investigation into whether the organization violated league policies pertaining to the integrity of the game.
The investigation, led by former U.S Attorney and S.E.C. chairperson Mary Jo White, lasted six months and focused on two areas, according to the NFL. The first centered on if the Dolphins violated league tampering rules with quarterback Tom Brady and former Saints head coach Sean Payton while they were under contract with other clubs;
the second on if the franchise intentionally lost games during the 2019 season to improve its draft position.

Stop trying to make decisions for Fields he's a grown adult that doesn't need you to worry about him he can handle himself. Are you implying their is nothing to gain from getting more experience?

Read above, sitting dinged players and playing rookies in place of shitty coming out of contract veterans is not intentionally losing games. I would say it is almost malpractice to play Schoffield over J Carter, Reiff over Leatherwood, Pettis and ESB over VJJ and N'Keal Harry and putting Justin Fields behind any combination of lineman the Bears have that are healthy enough to go out their and play like shit.
