Has there ever been a push to 86 the shootouts from regular season games? It seems Special person to have a team game decided by which individual has the best stick handling abilities. Maybe that's just me though.

The shootout is very new. It only came to be because of the NHL lockout. They wanted to bring fans back to the sport and keep up the excitement instead of ending in a tie.

How new is it? I used to be big into hockey back in the '90's when I was growing up (just starting to get back into it) and I seem to remember there being shootouts. It was 10-12 years ago though so I could easily be mistaken.

They need to just do a 20 minute ( 4 on 4 if they wish ) OT and call it good. If it's a tie it's a tie. What the fuck is the point of a 5 minute OT.
