Tough win... not a lot of great defense, nor did the top line look all that great but with the backup in, a win is a win :)

Good job Hawks!

Already a much better start to the season then last year. Hopefully Crawford is back soon.

Told ya this wasn't going to be easy.

There are no cream puffs in the NHL.

Kaner looks awesome at center.

Duncs looks like last year minus the turnovers.

What was the general reception to Buff and Ladd?

The reception to Buff and Ladd was minimal. Ladd got a nice cheer when they announced starting lines before the puck drop and Buff got a few applause on his first shift, but it was very minimal. Very quiet.

And yeah, Serious, you said it wouldn't be easy... well, it would have been easier if Emery didn't blow. He was incredibly shaky and after he gave up the 2 quick ones, Winnipeg spent the whole night trying to put some more through his five hole. Good time out by Q... the team snapped into the game after that.. they do have some experience playing in front of loose goalies after all.

Winnipeg is NOT good. Ladd looks desperate for some help. He obviously stood out, but he can't do it alone. Buff was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Such a loaf. Pavelic wasn't very good either, but I think he's better than what he showed tonight.

Kane does look great at center, but how about Carcillo? I'm glad to eat my doubts. Granted, it's only one game, but it's great how he fits in there. He had a couple fantastically aware passes deep in the zone and had some legitimate chemistry with Hossa and Kane. I think he ran into every Jet on his first shift and continued to be a physical presence the whole night. Nothing major, but he was jawing with everyone, throwing the body around all while fitting in offensively. No penalties. Awesome.

4th line had a few nice shifts.

Not a pretty game, but not a bad one to watch.

Oh yeah... and Bolland. He's playing like he did during his hot streak last year. Certainly helps that Bickell is playing a pretty decent game too.

So much for no center depth.

I liked the Hawks' offensive pressure at the end of the 1st and into the 2nd. Emery was nervous IMO. Hope he can settle in and be a reliable back-up as the season goes on. Any news on how long Crawford will be out or was it just tonight?

Good point. I absolutely hate HATE the Q obligatory 5 on 3 power play timeout. He never should have said his opinion about the significance of a 5 on 3 on a game aloud...it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I look forward to Crow being back in the net vs the B's.

Emery is lucky the opposing goaltender stunk a tad worse.

Crow was healthy enough to be backup; he's fine.

Yes.

And I'd be ok if Foley would stop mentioning it every 5 on 3 too.

Yeah, they were both very loose. Pavelic made a great save against Bickell one second and then gave up that 4th goal right after to Bolland on the side of the net. Hossa's goal was a turd too.

I'm sure Ray will be ok, but this wasn't a strong showing.

This was a pretty good game for it being my first game. I definitely like hockey a lot more in person than I do watching it on tv.

I have a hard time pinning the first two goals on Emery. He was on top of the crease and ready to absorb the original shots, a deflection happened and all hell breaks loose. Really just luck of the draw that those slipped by. Hell, the second goal looked like it was going wide, Slater then looked to tip it behind himself, through his leg, and inside the post...I mean common.

The third goal he was over committing to and was sloppy. I think you can pin that one on Emery.

I was on the far end for the 1st and didn't see the tip on the 2nd goal. Good to know he wasnt beat as bad as i thought.

Winnipeg definitely saw something though... They went 5 hole at every chance after those first 2. Emery improved but there didnt seem to be much confidence there.

One other thing- watching the Hawks try to enter the zone and get set on the PP was brutal. That needs work.

Agree...first 2 were not his fault...toews with the bad TO on the first one

5 hole is pretty much a standard shot on goalies...Toews goes 5 hole on pretty much every shot
