Here's something else to consider re: schwarber vs Kershaw... Schwarber is near the league lead in pitches per plate appearance. Now on the one hand you want guys in the line up to put in good at bats. But on the other if anyone is going to struggle against the pitcher of this generation I'd like to have a guy in who at least will run up his pitch count. Kershaw has struggled big time in the 7th so if his pitch count is anywhere near 100 pitches I imagine they are yanking him.

Seager out is a pretty big break for the Cubs. I didn't think his back was that bad.

I agree. Kershaw has a monkey on his back, that only some broadcasters think he shed last year by stopping the nats in relief. (Who hasn't stopped the Nats in round one at this point?)

But if Schwarber plays, he better make him work the plate. Don't just K easily. Give me one timely bomb!

And no fucking errors. I hate watching Schwarber in left.

Lackey real use is

Emergency starter
Extra inning reliever
Long man in 2nd/3rd inning of a blowout

I'd prefer a pitcher with swing and miss stuff in a high leverage situation (rondon) .

Lackey as reliever in extra innings is very last thing we should hope for. I would prefer to see him start twice than relieve in extra innings once.

Not really. The problem with verlander was always two fold. One his age and price and two was the cost to acquire. He's a short term rental pure and simple but you're paying price of a long term building block

Gotta get that pitch count up on Kershaw. Make him field a couple of bunts too, maybe get that back aching... 2016 Cubs used the bunt very well in the playoffs. 2017 cubs need to do the same...
