Joe Buck is literally unbearable. He can't hide his disdain for the Cubs. That POS actually reference Bartman.

I feel like it's a mistake for the dodgers to go with Kershaw game 2. Obviously it was a big win tonight for the cubs but if the dodgers don't win game 2 vs Hendricks with their best player on the mound the series seems pretty desperate for them at that point. Plus on short rest he could be bad.

He's on 4 days rest. Thurs was no more than a bullpen session that is in regular routine. (Sorry, Nats)

But the Cubs need to be smart and patient. He doesn't walk many and we don't hit curves, but he isn't going deep innings. .

  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Chibear55 you were right about the section behind home plate. There's a reason for that. Lots of money fairweathers wanting to be seen. It's like the white hairs at a basketball game wanting everyone to sit down. I'll say this that everyone right out of camera range was really into except around the 6th and 7th. The bats had been quiet and Baez was delivering pitches slow as molasses. Fun game to be at overall. I have no voice left and neither do any of my other family members. Go Cubs!

Aaron Boone says Javy has "next level instincts".

Couldn't agree more.

You can't teach his score from 3B. That is all instinct. And I'm saying that as a coach.

The Lester move proved to be an enormous factor.

You don't underestimate Jon Freakin' Lester.

Dodgers had lefty/right/right coming up. Game was 3-1 (how important was that fourth run?) and Lester simply wasn't pitching well (more line drives and fly balls, not many ground balls, third time through the order) for me to essentially forgo a chance at scoring a run. This has nothing to do with "underestimating" Jon Lester but everything to do with scoring a very important run.

The moves were not moves that were bad UNTIL THE PLAYERS didn't execute. Montgomery giving up a hit to a lefty. Strop walking Utley. Bryant not getting an out on the ground ball. These are all things that are not in Joe Maddon's control; he's put his players in a place to succeed and they didn't get it done. Chapman comes in and gets exactly what you need in that situation which is two strike outs. Ross didn't work any off-speed stuff in to Gonzalez so Gonzalez had plenty of opportunity to time a fastball (even 102) and he got a pitch in a good place to simply extend and shoot up the middle.

When I think a manager makes a mistake, I think he made the mistake before the outcome. I just don't see lifting Lester to drastically improve your chances of scoring and asking your bullpen to get 9 outs as a huge thing.

I'm not so sure that the issue is so much the physical toll of throwing but the mental and adrenaline aspect of pitching as the closer in a game 5 situation and throwing off your normal rest period. I mean, how much true rest did his body really get for him to go out tomorrow and pitch 100+ pitches? I mean, there's a reason that side sessions and bullpen sessions are only used in a game as a team's last measure and not something the regularly do.

I think the fear is they pitch him game 3, then you can't pitch him again until game 6 and the odds you're at that point with only one Kershaw start is probably fairly low.

The other thing is they simply don't have another guy who can go for them. If Hill was fully rested I'd get the move of waiting to get to game 3 but Urias isn't a better starter than Kershaw so it's almost Clayton by default.

You are a 100% correct. He reads plays better than anyone I have ever seen and this isnt me being a fan boy. He has grown into this. He didnt flash this completely in the minors.

Cubs have played five playoff games, had a lead in at least the eighth inning or later of each one.

For my money, I'd go with the lineup of

Fowler - CF
Bryant - RF
Rizzo - 1B
Zobrist - 2B
Soler - LF
Russell - SS
Baez - 3B
Contreras/Montero - C

For their lefties.

Why? I still highl doubt Joe against defense again. Think about the games we have won in the playoffs because of our defense and the other teams making mistakes? This isnt knocking Soler and I believe he will be in the lineup against Kershaw, but I dont think he will sit against Hill.

I hope that we never ever again see Chapman brought in in the 8th inning with runners in scoring position. I don't think we will. With regards to Joe pulling Lester, I thought it was a mistake at the time. He was still a better choice that the bullpen & the defense behind him might have been the greatest that I have ever seen in a MLB game. Russell obviously must be in the lineup for his defense but he needs to be moved down in the lineup to the 7 or 8 spot. Baez needs to be moved up the the 4 spot which will help Rizzo get better pitches to hit. This team is just unbelievable.
