No, I caught that. Just not important. You can get the same results by beaming a professional hitter.
No. You can't. It isn't the same as personally getting in.the box. The reason the idiot reliever did it last night is because he didn't have to get in the box.

But the message is the same. There is no need to have it sent to the pitcher directly.

People enjoy seeing all the strategy involved. The AL game is an autopilot management experience at gametime.

Not what one of the greatest managers ever says, but to each their own.

As it stands the Commish agrees with you for now.

You should watch Maddon and the moves he makes during games Arrieta isn't pitching.

No. I could punch your best bud in the face and you aren't getting the same message.

Amazing, amazing night. I could hardly go to bed last night. I've been around for a few good Cubs teams but this has a different feel to it -- just because of our youth. This is not lightning in a bottle -- the ascent for our team is just beginning. We're going to be a factor for many, many years.

A few thoughts:

1) Arrieta is electric. I've never seen a stretch of pitching like this before. He is utterly dominate and its incredible watching him utilize every inch of all four corners of the plate. He was straight up dealing with the full arsenal of pitches on display. Any time he steps to the mound this post-season, count it as a W.

2) The Fowler/Schwarber combination was crazy. When Fowler is rolling, we're tough to stop. First inning he gets on-base and immediately steals 2nd, already putting himself in position to score. You have a guy with a .350+ OBP who can run and hit for power leading off with the trio of Shwarber/Rizzo/Bryant behind him? Yikes.

3) At a certain point, Rizzo and/or Bryant will start going off, and when it happens -- Good Night, St. Louis.

That analogy has nothing to do with the sport of baseball and does not relate. Make it my kid and bingo, you got something even if the analogy is flawed.

Brett being Brett today. Sometimes it doesnt register with the pitcher that a teammate is going to get thrown at. It also doesnt register that it hurts. I'm done discussing this with you.

Arrieta was really good, but let's give some credit to the defense behind him. Russell blew a scalding GB trying to keep it in the IF and got another scorcher to turn the DP. Castro with a smooth turn. Threat over. Next inning Bryant gloved the A-Ram hot shot and the Cubs turn 2. ERA is a team dependent stat. Yes. Jake had a great night, but the kids playing positions did a great job backing him up.

Castro was cool as a cucumber turning those DPs too.

Anybody who thinks the NL game needs a DH is dumb. This is why pitchers are in the batters box.

Can you explain further?
Besides (obvious) tradition and skyrocketing costs of pitchers, why wouldn't the NL consider the DH?
Maybe for another thread, but I'd be interested in the pros and cons.

Pitcher in the lineup requires more thinking and strategy by the manager. More pinch hitting, double switch, personnel changes, etc.
