I'm guessing he wanted him for if the cubs took the lead. I'm guessing he put martin in to get multiple innings from lackey if needed. Probably would've bat scwarber in the tenth.

He is absolutely just rolling dice at this point.

I can forgive a manager when all relievers are pitching poorly - leaves them no easy decisions.

But Lackey with two out in 9th in high leverage situation?

Why not Davis and use Lackey to start another inning? Like 11th, after Davis goes 1 1/3.

I truly believe he tries something different just to say he tries something different - like changing the lineup every day, including days after we score 17.
