I think you can only challenge the spot in regards to a first down or TD/Safety.

Doesn’t make any sense. The precedent is that you’re challenging the spot of the ball, and if the spot changes, you win. Unless Fox literally said, “I’m challenging that that wasn’t a first down”.

I stand corrected. This article from 2016 references some challenge changes, which includes that the spot of the ball not related to a first down or touchdown can’t be challenged.
