This is likely stuff he played through in the past that led to persisting injuries

and thats why i wouldn't re-sign him

no player is ever 100% and if him playing through a sore muscle is gonna cause a ton of other complications then his body is not cut out to play sports...so why get burned on that investment again?

Well sure I get what you're saying. I'm not saying Rose will be like this forever either. But it's not ridiculous to think his body is still adjusting after 4 years of sitting out for various stuff. He's still on pace for 70 games which is probably more than the last 4 years combined. Let's just be happy about that rather than thinking of kicking him to the curb in 2 years, not that you still won't kick him to the curb in 2 years, but for the fact that a guy is overcoming his injury woes to a degree.

Last 3 years combined is 61 games.

Dougie's gotta keep this confidence going. He was actually competing about as well as I've seen him defensively too. He was getting into the chest of guys and engaged both on and off the ball. Didn't look like he was jittery on that end. Looked very comfortable. Hopefully he's turning a corner.

I wonder what effect Dunleavy is having on him. The guy he clearly has bonded with on the bench is Portis, so thats a toughness plus. At the least Dunleavy is pushing him to claim minutes before they vanish.

He stepped up. I haven't seen him play that tough before but we know he can hit every shot, every runner, every lean, or turn or fade away with practically either hand. He needs to offensively outplay his weaknesses but he has a huge aresnal of ways to score and you could see that in college if you watched him score 30+ a game. He was clutch from 3, and hit plenty, but he scored from everywhere.

He does have a very wide offensive arsenal. He just has to continue to be aggressive, look to exploit mismatches, and I like when he attacks and gets a couple of floaters and mixes in his outside shot as opposed to just being a spot up shooter. He doesn't always have to take the shot coming off of screens and he's starting to show good recognition on when to dribble the ball deeper and attack and when to pull up for the jumper.

For Doug it's all about confidence, which you can tell he's gaining more of. He's always been more than a 3 point shooter. I'm glad to see him displaying everything. He's the fifth highest scorer in CBB history for a reason.

At least his defense can be masked if we get interior defense. Maybe next year.

Unless they were defensive specialists in college, most players take many years(4-6) to develop a solid defense in the NBA. And of course, the other exception are players who make a career out of piling stats while not increasing their teams wins a whole lot.

Yeah but he seemed at least to be TRYING to play defense which is kind of a big change from the past.

That's what I respected about Kyle Korver also.

He was a horrible defender when he first came to the Bulls, but he gave maximum effort and became somewhat competent on the defensive end by the time he was traded to Atlanta.

I'm cool with Derrick sitting out a game if it means no nagging or lingering injuries. This is likely stuff he played through in the past that led to persisting injuries. And again, this is the healthiest he's been in a long time, and arguably this is the best he's looked in a long time as well. Let's not crucify him for being cautious.

Exactly. Why can't we enjoy the fact that the Bulls decided to play it safe and rest Rose when he's got some stiffness, and the team won a big game, all while McD, Portis, and other role players got great experience? This is an entirely different approach than in the past. The goal is to win it all. Going on the road early in the playoffs id NOT more important than clicking on all cylinders going in.

Why spend the next year and a half complaining about a situation you have no idea how it will unfold?

I'm thinking our best shot is as the 3, 6, or 7 seed.

I do have a question. Was he merely experiencing soreness in his muscles or was it joint pain and they were afraid to have him play through it? Also, did the doctor recommend that he sit out that last game?

That is true yet I also believe that defense is more an attitude than a skill and many players never get that attitude.
