Game Day is finally here. Illini take on Toledo at 6:30. Perfect sunny day with little wind. This is going to be fun.

Had some plans get cancelled for this weekend and I am actually considering driving to Champaign to take in the great football weather and the game.

And possibly on to Cincy to see the Cubs.

Waiting to see what wins - reason or spontaneity.

Illini take on Penn State in a few minutes. This could be ugly.

I turned to the Illinois Penn State game at 11:20 fully expecting Illinois to be down double digits already and was pleasantly surprised it was 0-0.

Then I watched our quarterback badly miss a wide-open receiver for what would’ve been a touchdown, running a very obvious sweep play on second and 10 that goes for 2 yards, and then throw behind the receiver on third down all to be followed by missing a field goal.

And none of that is at all out of character or surprising.

People have been avoiding the football stadium for years, for good reason.

RIP, Illini legend, Dick Butkus.

Little known fact: While at Illinois, Butkus played MLB and Center. And was All-American as a Center.

RIP, Illini legend, Dick Butkus.

Little known fact: While at Illinois, Butkus played MLB and Center. And was All-American as a Center.
I met him at Memorial Stadium at Illini/Iowa game.
My Iowa homeboy was totally starstruck and jazzed. He asked for an autograph and Dick told him he had the wrong shirt on. (Iowa shirt), pointed at me and said "How about you?".
Thinking now I should have given him my friend's name and then given autograph to my homie.
But since I was a hothead 13 year old kid I told him he was a piece of shit asshole and he could **** right off and suck this and that, etc.
He would've broken me in half but I still would have met him at Logan Square for breaking my homeboy's heart.
Me and Iowa homie got struck by lightning together.
Dick Butkus is in the hall of fame and shit, but he never took a lightning bolt with me.

Illinois got blown out by hapless Purdue last Saturday.

Nice to see them respond by........getting blown out at home by hapless Nebraska tonight.

Make no mistake, Nebraska looks like a bad team. And they're easily the better team on the field.

Why can't we have nice things?

Just launched the entire Illinois football program into the sun already and put us out of our misery.

Don’t bother even discussing hiring a new athletic Director or a new head coach or a new this or a new that. When we add for teams to the Big Ten next year, Illinois will be the 15th best program in the conference or worse.

Of all the teams that play Division I football there are 20 programs worse than Illinois historically or at least in the last 60 years. I don’t want to hear about what they did during World War I.

Illinois is on a bye week.

Illinois has opened as a 3 1/2 point underdog.
