I tried that link to get the online information but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm on step 1 where they ask what your relationship is with the deceased but it doesn't allow you to type anything in there.
The application only let's immediate family as well, no selection for grandson.

But it says that a vet discharged prior to 1950 becomes public record. Either way, the page does not allow you to enter any information at all.

What i was saying is that I was trying to get stuff for my grandpa and they don't list grandson as a next of kin option. I'm sure I'll have to just call someone to figure something out. My grandpa was in the 69th and won a couple of awards I'd like to know more about, all I have is a vague article from a newspaper.

You have to fill out some more extensive paperwork and send it in, or try calling someone at the archives number listed there and explain that you are conducting some geneology on your relative. They will let you know what to do next. The bad thing is that most of the records are on microfishe and an archive worker has to scan them and send them to you. If all the good tax payers would just pony up some more money then we could get all the records online where they are much easier to search. My G3 grandpa has been dead since 1887, its not like someone could steal his identity and open a credit card for fucks sake...ya know.

Yeah, digitizing old documents is a time consuming and expensive endeavor. It's not like you can just slap delicate documents into a machine that scans it in seconds.

A gentleman in Gesnes, France, forwarded me these maps with the location marked out. This MIGHT be the battle site, but I've been in contact with another gentleman whose ancestor was killed 16 days later and according to map references are buried close to one another. In the fast-moving warfare of late 1918, I wonder if this means this was a makeshift cemetery whilst the construction of the Meuse-Argonne Cemetery was in progress?

Either way, it's better than nothing. I forwarded the new set of coordinates to the man in Gesnes and hopefully will hear from him within the next few days.

Wow, getting into way too much detail for me. hah. Anyone know if there is anyway to track the route of a division in world war two? All I really know is my grandpa worked communications for the 69th.
