From an objective point of view, if you're only increasing upper body mass and your legs and lower body aren't getting stronger to compensate, it seems reasonable, but if as a skill player (i.e. a basketball player or a sprinter) you're working out the whole body which includes the core and the lower body, you should be able to compensate. It might actually differ depending on the individual athlete. Some beefy guys can run pretty fast, while some skinny white guys are just slow. I don't think you can generalize it that way.

I suppose Google holds the answer.

How many pounds of muscle are we talking about? 10? 20? 50? Did he turn into this guy?

If you're increasing upper body mass, wouldn't your legs at least somewhat be forced to compensate due to carrying heavier mass around?

People with the biggest calves are former fat guys.

But I should explain that I'm being specific to a top notch genetic freak of an athlete, as I saw that posted here regarded Lebron James but the thread was locked before I could get an explanation.

For what it's worth, prefer not to get too many answers from google. I feel above it.

But Google has answers!

4 Harmful Muscle-Building Myths Uncovered

Myth #2: Building muscle will cause you to become slower and less flexible.

This one goes back to the old days when people described bodybuilders as being "muscle bound" and "bulky". Contrary to what you may think, building a significant amount of lean muscle mass will actually speed you up rather than slow you down. Muscles are responsible for every movement that your body makes, from running to jumping to throwing. The bottom line is that the stronger a muscle is, the more force it can apply. Having stronger, more muscular legs means increased foot speed, just as having stronger and more muscular shoulders means the ability to throw farther. Strong muscles are able muscles, not the other way around.

Woooooow...here's hoping that my gym time pays off then!

The problem is, while that answer is mostly correct it's not very explanatory. It's expected that we all take that person's word for it.

The correct answer as with most things fitness/nutrition related is it depends.

The answer above is mostly correct, and is correct 100% in regards to a high level athlete.

Indeed, as in my initial pre-Google response :D

Rush knows those are my two favorite words. What an asshole.

True story, he sent me a message on fb chat last night to warn me this isn't ran like another site and that I could get banned if I act like myself. He would love for me not to do that. However I don't give a shit about Chigaco sports, other than my friend playing for the Bears, who are now done because they suck.

He forgets that I was smarter than everybody at MM as well, while playing nice.

I did tell him I was going to make a thread titled Rush is a ******.. guess that's out now.
