1-2mil is kind of standard for a backup so if that's what Bagent develops into then great.

If Bagent sucks and wants 4+ mil you say goodbye

If he is good you trade or keep him

It's not complicated.

You worrying about the low salary for a backup is pointless.

We will spend 1-2 mil for a backup just like a lot of the other teams will. In fact KC just signed Wentz to the backup for 3.3mil so it's gonna be ok if Bagent develops into a several mil per year QB
sure thing, bud! keep telling yourself this! im letting it go!

feel free to revist this thread in a year or two

we will see if the bears give bagent a 2nd contract or not. RFA in 2026

need a reddit type function that will auto bump a thread to you in a set amount of time

Pretty sure the Bears were paying like $10M for a backup QB for quite a stretch. They are more expensive than you think

At this point I could flip a coin on keeping Bagent vs keeping Austin Reed, or Rypien. The fact that Bagent is the guy who's more proven and has a bit of value is the reason that you move him if you can get a 5th from teams like Carolina, Raiders, Browns, Jets, etc

Caleb is the future. Some of you have to let go of your backup QB love affair... At least for the next couple of years

well, considering all i said was that i dont think bagent will get a 2nd contract with the bears and your incessant arguing with me....one can only come to the conclusion that you must disagree with that notion

The whole contract might be 10mil but not for each year I don't think. Maybe the giraffe? But he was brought in as a starter not as a backup.

Here is the contracts for backups last year..

no one wants to re-sign bagent, let it go bud.

If he plays well he should leave the bears and go somewhere they would give him a chance to play. If he doesnt play well its a pointless argument.

Why you talking about a scrub backup qb when we have the next jordan starting for us

That's not what this back and forth was about..

more ridiculous than bagent signing an extension with the bears whilst CW is on the roster?? that would be a terrible use of cap room

This was what started our back and forth.

You not thinking Bagent will get a second contact has nothing to do with what we where talking about.

lol sure thing, bud

so i say he wont get a 2nd contract with the bears(which is due to not tying up too much cap room in a backup QB as our cap needs grow), and you respond saying that it would be worthwhile to give him that 2nd contract to keep him around(because you dont think that is poor cap management)

yet, you somehow claim you arent arguing that the bears will give him a 2nd contract lol

you are a confused lil man, i swear.

so whats going to happen? are the bears going to give bagent that 2nd contract or not??? since you dont think it would be a bad cap decision

FFS, it's really simple.

Tyson Bagent comes in and plays poorly in 2024, move on.

Tyson Bagent comes in and plays well in 2024, he's under contract for next season.

Tyson Bagent comes in and plays poorly in 2025, move on.

Tyson Bagent comes in and again plays well in 2025, you 2nd rnd tender him which is currently around $3M (average backup QB money) if someone wants him you listen to offers.

Hand wringing over what will happen in 2026 to the backup qb with 4 games of actual play is the epitome of what is CCS.

If bagent plays this year and plays well he will not be a bear in 2025.

Wrong I said if your not giving a contract to Bagent you are giving it to someone else..

here is my quote..

This is a very strange statement here, if Bagent doesnt sign an extension, they would sign another backup QB.. which would count against the cap. so your solution is to not have a backup QB?

Bagent will only be significantly more then a late round rookie, if he has significantly improved.

Bagent is getting paid UDFA money. $750K, $900K, $1mil.
Rypien is getting $1.25 mil as a failure.

If Bagent is what many of you think he is he's $3mil-$7mil easy. That is significantly more.
Thing is he's not what many of you think he is.

you 2nd rnd tender him

Nobody is giving a 2nd. I'm sure he knows that, avoid the formalities and just give him a 2nd tender contract if that's the case. You have even get to low ball him for $2 million.

Or do what I said and put him on the block before 2025 and try to get a 4th or 5th for him. If he's the backup so many think he is some team may pay that for what they've seen of him.

I don't think we should pay $3mil for what I've seen of him.
If Williams is injury prone for the Bears we need better. If he's not Bagent is very replaceable.

What I think Bagent is, is a fun story. I have no idea what he will become, he does some good things, and so far it looks like has has improved on a big weakness that he had last year with velocity. So I have no idea if he will be worth 3mil or 7 mil or should be cut.

It doesn't hurt the team at all to find out.

I understand you have a big problem with the backup QB and the cap hit.

Have you let KC know they are doing it wrong with paying 3.3mil for a backup yet?
