They are a playoff team now so it isn't a lottery pick but even if they slip out it will be a late lotto pick. I would do that at the deadline if we don't have a package deal available. I am more concerned about seeing what we can do with deng and kirk. Deng's value won't get higher and if we could get a serviceable expiring for him, we should do it. I would do blake and outlaw for Deng. Then desperately try to move kirk and salmons for Allen. I would even throw in our first or tt to get it done.

I rarely if ever comment on these trade rumors, but do you know that according to K.C. Johnson...Tony, not Ray Allen was what Boston was interested in parting with? And where was all of this love for cap space in the summer? I said continuously everybody on last year's roster but Rose (and now Noah after his season so far...) should go, none of them are that important...people were boohooing like the Pope died. I just don't get it...

I didn't say Deng doesn't help.

You called him a "terrible contract", which basically amounts to the same. Terrible contract is how I'd describe Eddy Curry or Jerome James, not Deng.

I just don't think a team can be an ecf or better team while handicapped by the LT and with him on the roster.

I disagree, Deng's only a couple of million a year overpaid at most. As a third option behind a star FA and Rose he's a damn good player. I dare say he'd be close to the best third option in the league. For example, Rose/MLE type guy/Deng/Bosh/Noah is a contender. Rose/MLE/LeBron/Deng/Noah is the favorite for the title IMO. Rose/Wade/Deng/MLE/Noah would be questionable, but Rose/Wade was always going to be the hardest to build a team around (and given you wanted to sign Gordon, who's an even worse fit with Rose/Wade, I don't see how you can hold the combo against Deng).

Unless we can land two stars (and clearing the cap space doesn't ensure that happens), we're going to end up overpaying someone. At least with Deng you know he's close to worth his contract. Like I said, if we can dump everyone and go all in I'd do it, as even if we strike out we'd have space to take a stab at 2011. But I think Deng + max space is almost as good (not quite the same upside, but way less risk), and if we go that way I couldn't argue strongly against it.

it'd be nice to get something of value for deng. he's played well. if he can hit the 3, i'd like to hang onto him. he's definately not anything more than 3rd option on this team. the lanes aren't open for him to drive, and he cant beat a guy off the dribble. really there's no place for him on our team...sadly. i liked him a couple of years ago.

I never said terrible player. Just contract, Deng is a solid player who will be missed a lot of first but you can easily get another good sf in this league. With management that won't spend the LT and guys like Deng and Kirk taking up a third of the cap, your never going to be a contender. I'd rather hit the reset button then being stuck in mediocrity.

Deng is more than a couple mill overpaid. He averages almost 12 mill per year plus incentives. He isn't a 10 million dollar a year player. There are quite a few guys better than him available at that rate. I would say he should be paid about 8 per year.

Well you gotta roll the dice. I don't think you get a top star with rose, noah, deng and kirk(thats assuming salmons opts out, not safe). They want to play together. I think you can become the best destination if you have room for two stars, rose, noah and salmons. That team is better than what Miami can put together. If not, I see Wade getting another star and joining the ec elite with Orlando (VC and Shard) and Bostons elite status wearing off in a couple of years.

If you strike out, you will still be able to get some better pieces on the cheap. NO won't turn down a first round pick and cap space for David west. I would happily take West over Deng for the remainder of West's deal.
