Is there a point in dorming at college/university if you don't party?

dude man, the way you reply in this thread after people are giving you help makes me think you really don't want the help. Also, why do you use the word "phag" so much? does it make you feel cool or something? Personally, I think you should live in the dorms. You definitely need to grow up and learn how to make friends. You won't do that as easily if you stay at home or just live by yourself. You don't have to party all the time if you don't want to party. My roomate in college only went to maybe 4 parties in all 4 years we were there and I partied from Thursday through Saturday every week. He is still one of the best friends i've made. You don't have to party but living in the dorms will teach you about yourself, will teach you to grow up and will teach you how to relate to others. Think about it, there is a reason why your group was alienating you. I can see why they would alienate you just from reading your responses in this thread. I wouldn't want to be associated with you either. You need to learn how to interact with others.

Just saw this thread...looked at the first page, saw decent discussion...skipped to the last page, wtf happened? :howdid:

In response to the OP, partying is overrated. You can party if you like if that's your thing, but if you don't like it then it's a waste of your time. Also, being a current student at UIUC, I can tell you that dorm life is as "exciting" as you choose to make it. You meet a lot of great people in dorms...perhaps people that will invite you to your desired parties and whatnot. Apartment life has its perks as well (cheaper, better food if you can cook decently, a little more freedom, etc) but you're definitely more likely to be disconnected from people, especially at a big school like UIUC. Though anyone determined enough can get themselves integrated socially.

If you really want to party, just join a frat when you get on campus. Supposedly, UIUC is a top 5 partying campus

Yeah, everyone does it, so it's probably cool. I don't like using the word, but since everyone is using, I have to use it to fit in.

/ bandwagon mentality.

Your roommate sounds like he has a huge ****, meanwhile you sound like you have a needle dick.

I pretty much clarified that when I said "the best city I've ever been in" (though I've been in quite a few you didn't mention). Without going into detail, I can come up with quite a few reasons Chicago is great place to live (and beats out many that you listed). Why can I do that? Because it's subjective.

Your condescension is noted.

I've been all over the country (and a decent amount internationally) and I still think Chicago is pretty awesome. Although I probably wouldn't want to live there permanently, it is one of my favorite cities period.

Well I originally planned on transferring to U of I-champaign and I had took classes based on their curriculum but I'm thinking about transferring somewhere else now in a Chicago school where I could commute there on a train and such.

I realized that there really isn't much of a point in living on-campus or going to a school far away if you aren't really going to bullshit and party and do whatever these clowns do these days.

I mean, I'm more than positive I could make friends commuting too, maybe not as easily, but it can still be done. It really isn't an excuse to live in a dorm or on campus to make friends when you can make them in any situation. Plus, I would be saving much more money living at home than living away as well.

The only benefit is the freedom, but is freedom really worth 10k+? I'm not sure.

I may consider going to a Chicago school such as DePaul, Loyola, UIC, whichever I end up choosing and eventually live the apartment life anyways (probably senior/last year). Plus, it's better since it's in the city of chicago opposed to the middle of no where in champaign.

Unless you are going to Northwestern or U of C, then go to down to Champaign.
