The great thing about baseball is that if you make a mistake on defense you get the opportunity to make up for it. I'm glad Montero got the walkoff. Awesome. Going yard had to feel good there.

Pirates and Cards are better then us. Get hot at the right time and anything can happen but I believe the Pirates are the best team in the NL. The way they win and are never out of anything is remarkable. The Cards truly don't scare me as much as the Pirates. That offense can be shutdown with good not great pitching. They still have a horseshoe up their ass from time to time but luck eventually runs out.

Now, who is completely over rated. The Dodgers. They are something like 44-22 against teams under .500. They are under.500 against the better teams. There offense is hit or miss. The only thing that scares you is Grienke and Kershaw. Their bullpen blows.

Now, I know we beat the Mets in 7 games but that is a scary team in a playoff series. The pitching is real and the offense has turned it on since Uribe and Cespedes arrived. That kind of top of the rotation pitching can get you far. Just hope they are young and falter if we do get a chance to face them.

I'll disagree. Pirates S.R. is weak with Burnett down. Cubs on the other hand is 5 strong.

Cole: 2.48 ERA 14-8 avout the same level as Arrieta
Burnett 3.06 ERA 8-5 If back he matches up with Lester
Lirano 7-6 3.13 Match up with Hammel About a push
Morton 7-4 4.48 I would take Haren or Hendricks over him.
Locke: Same thing.

So if Burnett doesn't come back, the Pirates are a joke. Cole then nothing. Even if he comes back I'd put money on the Cubs in a series due to the SP depth.

1 game I wouldn't bet against Arreta. He is money. Pirates do not have a starter that can match him.

Arrieta has better numbers going this year. Big number I saw: BAA: Arrieta: .206 Cole: .242 Cole has been hit more this year. Both teams have a deep pen. The back end of the rotation Cubs have advantage. Lester has taken his game up a notch in the 2nd half. I feel pretty good with Arrieta pitching the 1 game then lining up Lester and Hammel before Arrieta is ready again.

Not knocking Cole. But Arrieta has been more dominate. He is in the CY young decision right now. With the Cubs pushing into the play offs it just makes it a easier sale.

You're discounting experience here. The Pirates have been here before, the Cubs kids haven't. If the Cubs make the playoffs they will be beating tremendous odds just by that act. No team with 4 rookies with 300 PA (yes Schwarber will probably get there by the skin of his teeth) has ever gone to the postseason. Not. Ever. I'm not saying you can't beat those odds, in fact I think they're likely to, but every step becomes harder. On paper Pittsburgh us the best team in the division but could very well finish in third place. That makes them very dangerous in a one game playoff. I don't think any logical case as to why the Cubs could beat the Pirates really holds much water, at least to me, because if our boys do make it logic goes out the window and we're still talking about a very, very young team. That all said, whether it would be Lester or Arietta starting, I think they could win that game because...baseball.
