What causes a person to have that much trouble throwing to 1st base?

I just think he's a lousy athlete. Most players can compensate when their body is moving the wrong way, and adjust their throwing angle. Lester is apparantely not athletic enough to do that. Similar to a right handed QB running left and throwing back right. He has to be in full windup mode to throw the ball straight.

I know their not gonna put up mega runs every game.
Just sucks more to get shut out when your starter only gives up a run or two..

Got 2 more bats to pull this out and win the series

Similar to last year. Cubs never really gave Lester a lot of run support.

I think it's more mental. He's said it happened in high school and he's worked on correcting it ever since. I don't card if you e got athletic issues with the move if you can't fix it with hard work in 13-14 years it's in your head.

I agree it's a mental thing, but most likely cuz he knows he just can't do it. I mean that throw was horrible. It was so bad that it's got to be more than mental.

The short answer is psychology. The some what longer answer is the mind can do weird things when a trauma occurs. A good example of this is Rick Ankiel. He was a good enough pitcher to get to the majors and for a time be pretty good. And then suddenly he lost all control in his pitching. In Lester's case, he probably had a case where he was doing it poorly and made a bad throw. That throw got into his head and now whenever he goes to do it he thinks of the failures. You often see that sort of thing can happen to people shooing free throws in basketball.

while i agree with this i can't accept it. Lester is a big asset for the Cubs, he is the number 2 in the starting rotation and the club should " force " Lester to get rid of his mental block and do what it takes to win the games, i don't know, hire a mental coach or something like that

This has been an issue he's worked on for years. He's a top notch pitcher with one flaw. He's had a successful career and continues to.

of course he is one of the best and today he did well, but i still think this problem shouldn't be underrated, in PO that can hurt a lot, it doesn't look like to me that he is working a lot on it, maybe he is but if this is the outcome well, all his work is not paying off

One of the only slight positives I've seen lately offensively is Jorge's bat has been much better since the Kyle injury. Small sample size of course but 7-28 with 2 HR and 4 BB/4 K is nice. Also seeing a ton more pitches in many situations and will eventually continue to force teams to throw him pitches to hit. If Heyward or Zobrist slump for multiple weeks, I wouldn't be shocked if Soler is the kind of bat that Joe moves up if he continues to show good patience and have good at bats.

Overall, the way I look at it

- Schwarber tore his ACL
- Heyward, Zobrist, Soler, Bryant, Rizzo, Russell all under .240

Team is 9-3.

It's amazing how good the pitching has been. Walks will drop, hits will go up, run prevention will hopefully keep happening.

No, can't say as I do. I have heard of Chuck Knoblauch....he had the Steve Blass-Steve Sax wild throwing phobia.

Good Lord, you say you're geriatric but you post and spell like you're in second grade.

You STILL can't spell it right. If you're really looking for an idiot, just look in the mirror.

Quit posting, you're an embarrassment.

Go figure, you're complex ability to respond to a poster who disagrees with you, is to call him an idiot. Even your insults are like a broken record. And as I pointed out to everyone, your pathetic trolling has been no different for the last decade.

It's not that easy clearly. Think of it like this. You're probably scared of something. I have 0 idea why but when I'm high up in buildings like say the Washington monument it messes with me to the point where I feel like the building is moving under my feet. I have no idea what caused it to this day. And in my case it's not so debilitating that I can't go in high buildings. But when I do it I'm very uneasy about it. The weird thing is I have 0 issue looking out the window of a plane at 10's of thousands of feet high.

I'd imagine the root cause for lester is probably something similar and trying to "fix" that once it is to this point just isn't something you do over night if at all.
