Don't really have a true cleanup hitter in lineup
Especially since he batting Bryant 2nd and Rizzo 3rd.

Fowler Bryant and Rizzo at top of order who are pretty much their high OBP guys...
So my guess is he has Zobrist there because he the best of the rest at making contact which makes him a higher percentage to drive in runs..

Russell in 5 hole now, is having a solid year at taking advantage of all 4 guys ahead of him getting on base and driving them home..

The rest of the bunch has just underperformed or been inconsistent all year...

Doesn't have a cleanup hitter if you still define
that by 1970's standards.

Don't know what Maddon plan is for his starting 8 come playoff but Damn he got to get Baez in the lineup just for his defense alone..

Whether its with his glove arm or tags , the guy makes plays for big outs that could be the difference in winning or losing close games and that huge in playoff series..

Soler's OPS was over .900 in August, I would've put him 4th. Especially with the short LF porch on Houston.

That great
But
Probably has to do with him having just
7 hits 1 HR 3 RBI in his last 41 AB before today

For him not hitting cleanup today

Plus

Hitting 6th with 5 pretty good bats ahead of you isn't a bad situation to be in for driving in runs...

Soler is sinking back into that pit he has been in most of the year. Might be a 4 hitter on the Braves but never on a good team

Soler may be the first DH in the history of MLB to be benched for defensive purposes

That the one thing that worries me come playoff time.
Not just with Soler but most of their hitters.
Their streaky hitters, they go through stretches where they hit everything, then go a bunch of games where nothing falls in for them.

I just hope come October, there more of them going through the good stretch then the bad

I have those same fears. The saving grace may end up being our magnificent starting pitchers. Even when we dont hit, the opponent will likely not be hitting either

Are there teams and hitters that aren't streaky? I mean this concern is mostly what the sport of baseball is: maximizing good streaks, minimizing bad ones.
