The Cubs have a bullpen when healthy that is equally as good as what KC used last year to win the WS. And this is with the Cubs having a top 3 playoff rotation in all of baseball. I have no fears about any part of this team's ability come October to actually succeed in the role they will be asked to do; they just have to execute.

Are there teams and hitters that aren't streaky? I mean this concern is mostly what the sport of baseball is: maximizing good streaks, minimizing bad ones.
You're correct
But
It just seems like most of the Cubs hitters go through this every month..
They get hot for like a 10 game stretch where they score a bunch , then cool off for 10+ games where it seems like they can't hit a beachball..
They've been lucky for most part with the pitching they've been getting..

I just hope come October their the team that able to score some runs, not the ones that can't hit a beach ball

Or sooner :) Not trying to be a contrarian, just the math nerd in me doesn't like 'magic number'.

Magic number doesn't factor cross-matchups remaining on the schedule between non-eliminated teams, only games back. :) What if I told you we could potentially clinch in 4 games? It is absolutely impossible via the schedule to not have a playoff berth. Mainly because the Cards and Giants have a 4 game series, and the Dodgers and Giants have 6 more games and the Nats and Mets play 3 as well.
ie: The Cubs win the next 4 and lose out, and every team that can overtake the Cubs(without the 4 wins) maximizes their wins, the Cubs still land the final wild card spot.

:D

Sorry, I do this every year, but never on CCS with the Cubs.

Magic number down to 14 for HFA in the NL. This is all we should be worried about guys.. :) Lester looked awesome in his last several starts. A complete game 3 hitter against the Giants and now 7IP 0ER against the stros. Things are good in cubbieland.

I guess I don't see how the term "magic number" is misleading. I have never heard it defined as the number of wins you need. It has always been defined as combined total of your wins and the losses by the team trailing. So it's never been unclear that a win against them reduces the magic number by two.

The "magic" number I am focused on is 11.

11 wins when it counts.

Ok..
So with Lackey pitching
Montero is DH
And
Contreras is Catching

I don't know but with 3 weeks left in season and only a couple starts left per starter, this kinda tells me Maddon leaning towards starting Contreras in playoff over Montero.

My thoughts are you don't have a guy sit on bench for 2 months then say ok, you're the guy for playoffs.
Pitchers and Catcher need to have a rhythm going with one another, especially heading into playoff

Fox color man ripping Heyward to shreds. Says he shouldn't be played against certain pitchers in post season

Contreras will be the catcher to start in October. Maybe Ross starts game one with Lester but that's it.

Were leaving way to many guys on base lately. Especially in scoring position. :(

Another shit pitcher having his way with the Cubs. Fortunately, they won't see any of these hacks in the playoffs.

I know Maddon taking advantage of them having big lead to rest position players but I hope the last 7 to 10 games he starts his regulars to get them AB and ready for playoff..

Also as a fan now, watching LaStella Coghlan etc playing everyday now is boring.. ?

Funny seeing Yankees only a game out of WC spot, 4 games of Division after unloading good veteran players for prospects at deadline
