My gut hurts, but I gotta say #CALLEDIT.
My favorite part was getting through the 7th on 6 pitches - with a strikeout!
Yep, I thought it was huge to keep that pitch count under control but
How about striking a out the side in the 9th inning of a no-hitter?
How cool was that?
Fuckin Nasty!@ESPNStatsInfo: Jake Arrieta in August (6 starts)
6-0, 0.43 ERA
42 1/3 IP, 19 hits allowed

As for the race for the CY award? Oh how I wish Zack Greinke gets lit up on his next outting!!

What's hurts though is Greinke's nasty 1.61era.Zack Greinke has been great, but 20+ wins and a No Hitter will put Jake right there in the race, imo, especially as the leader of a very young team.
This is what sports is all about! Go Arrieta and Cubs!
This might be the year that a pitcher should be selected as an MVP. It's hard to argue that Arrieta hasn't been a real stopper when the young Cubs could continue a downward slide. Perhaps Greinke wins the CY and Arrieta wins MVP.
I think you make a very interesting comment. I was looking at the Cubs roster a couple of weeks ago when they were at the end of that winning streak looking for an MVP candidate. I was surprised that none really appeared offensively. Most shocked by Rizzo really. But with you commenting about Aririeta, I think it makes a lot of sense.
Bryce was great, but really, where would the Cubs be without Jake? If I had a vote I think for sure I'd vote Jake as MVP and Zach as Cy. It seems weird but the more I mull it over I think it makes perfect sense too.
I've never thought about a pitcher being an MVP and generally sided with the argument that the MVP must be an every day player. Watching Arrieta this season has changed my mind.
edit: And that in't a slam on the everyday Cubs. They are very young. Even Rizzo is young to be a team leader. Arrieta's steady presence on the mound stands out to me amongst everyone.

Best news.....
after a rough 2-4 western road trip, they still lead the last WC spot by 5.5 only losing one game off their lead with 6 more games, 6 more road games burned off the schedule.
100%. It's no slight on the offense really. I can think back as a baseball fan (not a Cub fan) and remember some great moments with Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber, Cogs, Miguel. But those are just moments. When I look back at Jake, I see consistency, tenacity, every fifth day, taking the ball and really running extremely well with it. The Cy Young has a lot of competition for it this season. I won't be shocked by anyone that finishes in the five or six spots behind #1 in the NL this year. Most of those guys would be Cy Young winners in many other recent seasons. But the competition for the NL MVP is not tremendous. Bryce looked like a lock most of the season, but look what's happening with the Nats. On the other hand you got a legit Elite Ace (yes, my terms so any scout purists, relax please) that not only shows up and does his job, but seems to be the one to pull the team when a slide if eminent.
I have no issues with a pitcher being voted MVP. He contributes as much as an every day player does in my breakdown of it.
Yep, I'm rooting for Jake. He deserves it.
