I really doubt that this is the case. You could also say this was a money decision and player paycheck diticated this. It could have come from above Joe in the process

But in all honesty this is more about respect. All 3 are proven vets and are paid well. Joe factored with his L/R/L thing. Hendricks got snubbed some but pitching in Rangers stadium vs a DH you are better off with 3 guys who have experience vs little to none Q was a decent arguement over Lester but it comes down to Lester is paid the most. And that still factors

Giving Darvish 3 more days for his blister to fully heal sure seemed like a reasonable solution.

Im fucking stoked. Im gonna be betting like a mofo!

Also, glad to see ya back. I thought something may have happened to ya.

Some health issues, but mostly just new responsibilities at work and we sort of ran out of things to talk about in a long offseason so I took a little time away. I'm here for the season though and ready to watch our boys.

I know some folks are worried about Lester starting today against the Rangers lineup but it's going to be 75 degrees at game time in Texas and that bodes well for the bats. Prediction: Cubs win 7-4

Any game outside of bad weather states is a win right now. I'm all for a southern state swing and make up the homestand mid season.

Be interesting to see if Maddon manages different this season, as far as allowing the SP go deeper and basically staying with a regular starting 8 most of season considering he really doesn't have much to turn to off the bench..
Caratini Descalso Bote Zagunis aren't exactly guys you want starting more then they need to to give guys days off here and there..

I hope not. I think Maddon's greatest strength is playing the matchups, and yes I know you don't feel the same. If Russell comes back and performs and Happ figures somethings out then that situation changes. In this day and age having a regular starting 8 is neither effective or should be the goal. Let's hope guys like Bote and Caratini surprise us some. As far as pitchers going deeper, I think that has to happen until the pen stabilizes. At some point though you have to limit those aging arms.

I agree with Maddon and the matchups, though I like a stable lineup..

I just dont see it with the players he currently has on the bench right now..

Caratini not much of a hitter or defensive guy, who basically a backup catcher and 1B..

Zagunis is a rookie corner outfielder, I guess like today he will play mostly vs LHers

Bote and Descalso will be mainly used to give Zobrist days off and guys rest

I just see Maddon having limited players on bench that flexible position wise and good enough to start most days now like he did with Jay, Happ, Zobrist, etc on bench

Contreras, Rizzo, Baez, Bryant, Almora , Heyward will more then likely be playing everyday with Zobrist getting regular days off like last year and Schwarber probably getting limited starts vs. LHers

The bullpen is going to be the key to the whole pitching outcome this year..
right now it very shaky to me
SP could go either way this year as far as being one of the great ones or worse

No big complaints with the lineup today. I like KB in the 2 slot.

here we go again, bench schwarber for the lefty but let Heyward and his .135 spring average play. Same old Maddon.

Heard on radio that when Rizzo was asked about Zagunis starting , he didn't sound too thrilled about it.

Their thinking was because a rookie bench guy was getting a start on opening day over Schwarber who supposed to be one of the core players on the team that been there and those guys are the ones Theo challenged to step it up this year..

Not like Minor tough against lefties
