Thats how good teams win. Those two sacrifice fly's is what good teams do to make sure they win. Good job Cubs. Good day when you sweep a DH. Motte must have loved today.

Should have won yesterday, then I'd be going crazy right now (would be 5.5 back)

Tomorrow will be a nice test to see if the offense has actually been awaken. Wacha vs Hammel, should be fun. Would be pretty awesome to take 3/4 from these SOBs

Caring about the results of games in July is already fun compared to the last few years...hopefully we're even more excited in August...and September....and...

Yes. The fact that a loss in July can piss me off is actually a very nice feeling.

While some would see a pessimist who complained about a single game, I contend the opposite. Because I am so hopeful that this team can be better than its record to date, falling out of contention for the division pre-ASG had me ticked.

But in honesty, as I said yesterday, they're at the point I expected, and well above where most expected. And that's Ok by me.

I remember being ridiculed endlessly last year suggesting they could win 84-86. With Soler out a month, Baez unavailable, many hitting far below where we can reasonably expect, with Bryant not hitting HR's like we hoped.....they're on pace for 90 wins.

No complaints. (Unless they lose tomorrow)

They swept us to 11.5 games back last week.

A win tomorrow to get to 6.5 would at least say "We're not going away."

Speaking of that one game that pisses you off, besides the two BIG leads blown in St Louis earlier in the year, to me it would be the first one in St Louis when Garcia hits his first homer to tie the game in the gem pitched by Arrieta.

The second would be yesterday when the Cubs fail to score on a first and third with no one out. That was followed the very next inning when Lester's no-hitter was gone, and then Bryant makes that terrible error to open the door for the Cardinals.

Push the run across when you are supposed to, and then make a throw to second base, and things could look totally different.

Even after the sweep in St Louis, I think the Cubs (though the record doesn't show it) have played well against the Cardinals. Out of the three games in St Louis, the Cubs should have had two in the win column as the bullpen imploded.

Instead of being 4-8 against the Cardinals, that would put them even at 6-6, and they would be 3-1/2 games back right now.

Ahh! The importance of head-to-head play.

These two wins should be a nice motivator for the team. The loss yesterday could have been demoralizing, one of those losses that starts a downward spiral but the team showed maturity and took a tough doubleheader.

St. Louis is the best team in baseball right now. Taking 3 of 4, or even going 2-2 against them is a great way of letting people know that this is a team that plans on being in the mix until the end of the season. It is a long way to the end but so far this team continues to impress me with the way they win games.

Sorry to bust bubbles but slow down on enthusiasm. .

They rallied late in 2 games against 2 terrible starters to win those games... offense is still dismal. . Team is holding on with their pitching..

They face wacha today, Hammel going to need to shut them down to give offense a chance.. otherwise their back to where they started when series began and they would have only luckily beat their 2 bad rookie starters and lost to their top 2 starters....

Offense need to figure it out before the starters go into a slump...

Hey Dot Dot
Why don't you try to enjoy life a little and hop on while it's fun.
You might be / probably are correct, but life is to short to be the always Debbie Downer.

Why should a Cub fan be attacked for taking a realistic look at his team?

First off baseball and the cubs are not my life. .
I have other things that I enjoy doing in my life..

But to your point. . I am enjoying the improvement of the team and watching them win games they were losing the last few years...

as I mentioned in another thread, im going to stay with my original thoughts of this team being a .500 or slightly better team until I see them get 10 games plus over .500 and stay there. .

Its great they swept the Cardinals yesterday, but im more interested in seeing how they do against an established starter like Wacha tonight. .

The excitement of beating them yesterday against 2 scrubs dampens a bit if they cone out tonight and lay an egg ....

Glass half full right now, just waiting to see which direction the water goes in 2nd half before I raise my expectation level on them....

I was a little more optimistic than you as I predicted they would be a contending team...meaning in contention for a playoff spot. That's even more feasible now as so many teams have taken steps backward instead of forward. The Braves, Reds, Giants, Brewers and arguably the Padres don't appear to be what most of us expected them to be. That puts the Cubs firmly in the mix. I've gone from being the laughing stock of friends and family in the pre season, to getting respones like..."hey, you might be onto something."

That being said....still a long way to go. Worry about today's game and go from there.

It definitely is fun, but it's a lot more stressful lol. I've thrown my remote way too much so far this season. The last few years, I knew we would lose so I would just enjoy seeing Rizzo, Castro, and Soler develop and do my best to keep up with the farm.

First I've heard that you're the self appointed enthusiasm moderator. The points you make are on target, but if someone wants to be happy about the first Cubs DH sweep over SL since ......1992, it doesn't matter who pitched who hit, bad call, whatever, WOOHOO "Cubs Win Cubs Win"!!
