I want a sweep...

I know tonight gonna be tough with Montgomery on mound against Samardzjia but cubs got Lester Arrieta and Lackey to follow..

Seeing Ross catching tonight over Montero and will catch Lester tomorrow(day game)..
I'm starting to get the feeling Montero, at least for the NLDS will not be on roster..

Because of Contreras' ability to play LF, i can see all three. Insurance. Otherwise I'd say no way 3 catchers make it. And even with that, you may be right that montero sits out. But I bet he makes it

Contreras will catch everyone but Lester
Soler will play LF

BENCH
Ross
LaStella
Baez
Coghlan
Szczur

Only way he makes it is if they go with 7 relievers over 8
BUT
Even then maybe they add Almora for pinch running / defense instead..

If you think about it, there no real reason to add Montero because if you start him , then their sitting better options in Soler or Contreras offensively and he provides nothing off the bench offensively or defensively.

Just my thinking

I think the Montgomery Experiment has come to it's conclusion. Too many walks. Situational lefty only for this guy. There's enough pitchers up now, do a bullpen game.

I would bet you are wrong. Montgomery is out there to eat innings. Ultimately the results really don't matter with how far the cubs are up. He gave up 3 hits tonight in 4 innings. It's only the walks that really were bad. But you're going to have that shuffling between starting and relieving. As a reliever you usually may only have command of 2 or so of your pitches. As a starter you need to have command of at least 3. That takes reps. Righties aren't even hitting him that hard this year at .242/.336/.351. Again the walk rate is higher than you'd like but a .687 OPS against him from his poor split isn't really that bad.

Also keep in mind the giants are probably a playoff team. There's not a ton in shame in having a poor outing against them. It wasn't a catastrophe.
