Wouldn't mind seeing Zast competing for a rotation spot next year.

The Cubs win these games where it just doesn't feel right and I accept they're going to lose this one

Like aren't the Cubs 3-0 when Mike freaking Montgomery starts? That's quite the feat

Five innings of perfect relief from the bullpen tonight. I know people love to ***** about this bullpen but here are the FIP's of the guys down there as Cubs

Chapman - 0.68
Edwards - 2.09
Strop - 2.87
Rondon - 3.07
Grimm - 3.34
Cahill - 4.09
Wood - 4.86
Zastryzny - 1.58

That's pretty fucking good. To compare to the Royals last year

Davis - 2.29
Madson - 3.09
Holland - 3.27
Herrera - 3.44
Morales - 3.52
Hochevar - 4.00

Yeah, it's sad to see people ***** about the pen so much, especially with Strop and arindon out.

We Won 15 of 17 at one point in Aug, with two blown8th inning leads while they were hurt. (Rondon pitched, but was clearly hurt as he was just off DL and went back on)

So because of that the pen gets ripped. But it's been good. Just not as great as every other aspect of this team.

I think he needs to get Montgomerys next start. I know they are hoping to get Lackey back on Sunday, but sticking with a 6 man rotation as the magic number is dwindling sounds like a good idea with expanded rosters. Montgomery is not going to start in the playoffs, and making the roster as a lefty specialist with Wood is what we need to prepare him for. I dont think they will trust Zas in that spot.

I'm assuming he'll likely take Wood's role as a LH long guy.

Depends on his stuff. Right now I agree as he can use a cutter/fastball mix. As a starter he needs a change up and preferably a overhand curve. Knuckle curve would work also to mix in.

Was saying next year. This year I agree that they need to run 6 guys. Seeing how the rosters are expanded right now they could set up that day with Montgomery and bring in Jake Buchanan after.

I would like to see them play a bench/AAA team once each road series. I don't want to see it at home, because fans should be able to see the Cubs "stars" right now. I know Cubs fans travel and some people will be disappointed. I just think it is time to do the Popovich get ready for the playoffs.

I had forgotten how brutally excruciating September baseball is. Like watching the last two minutes of an NBA game.

"And Bruce Bochy is heading to the mound for the 37th pitching change of this inning..."

With so many guys contributing on this team I think rolling days off is the better course of action.

Speaking of off days, Rizzo looks like he needs to sit and clear his head. He only had 2 HR in August and now he's pressing trying to hit it out, swinging at balls and not allowing his ABs to unfold naturally.

I agree. His slash for the last 30 days is still very, very good despite the lack of power at .303/.370/.459 but his last 7 days have been tough at .172/.250/.276.

what is the reason for back to back night followed by game day to keep coghlan in left field along with back to back for Ross?

Not sure why it was Ross last night but not surprising today. As far as Coghlan I think we're going to see a lot of he and La Stella as Maddon figures out which one is the best choice as the LH bench bat for the playoff roster.
