No, he made an awesome throw, but then ran 200 feet and has arch trouble now. When he comes back he is getting different shoes with arch support insoles in them.
Whoever missed Almoras sliding catch running towards the brick wall (again) yesterday, can google his highlights of his no fear of the bricks compared to Heyward being just plain ok in center field. You lose two places where you have absolute great defense to get a bat in the lineup.

So what if Maldonado catches Darvish and comes in late in games to defend behind the plate when you dont expect to need his bat? I at least hope he is gonna get a shot catching Darvish next time around. Too much Joe feel good first day to realize that we have a day game today with Darvish, but I guess we cant put it past Joe to use the 240 pound catcher after a late night game.
CONTRERAS IS A BUTCHER IN THE OF AND HAS ALREADY FLUBBED A FEW BALLS THIS YEAR. I HAVE NO FAITH IN HIS ABILITY TO TAKE THE RIGHT ANGLES ON BALLS AND DEAL WITH THE WALL

MALDANADO LOOKS LIKE A MINI CC SABATHIA. HOW DOES A PRO PLAYER GET THAT FAT? HE WILL BE 350 LBS BY THE TIME HE IS 60

Haha! I'm a man though :p

What a great way to win a game! However, quite disappointed to see that guy just snatch the ball away from those kids though! Not going to lie, when I see stuff like that it makes me feel uncomfortable...adults (animal instinct?) basically fighting each other to get the ball but hey I'm guessing its just something as fans you have to get accustomed to right?!
yeah, the kid would have been in that basket if he tried to get it himself, but the guy should have given it up. He went hugging his life partner, nothing like the one handed I'll hold my beer catch from the other day.
It was a cheap home run, but not much different than the one that squeaked out for Puig on Monday. Just another type of fan that gives us cub fans a bad reputation and a clear understanding why so many other teams fans hate us.

You lose value with Almora at CF also.

I do believe that too many try to make too much of this so called loss of... For a switch.

I see it as you do what it takes to win. That means playing Garcia and guess what 2 run HR. Heyward has played CF and is bringing a 110 wRC+. Almora is bringing a 75. That is not MLB starting quality production. If it wasn't for his glove he wouldn't be a ML quality talent. His main problem is in his approach. He doesn't accept walks. Which means the pitcher has a easy time setting him up to fail with no fear of him not biting the hook.

Contreras is passable as a catcher. His acclaim is his bat and his athletism. Great reactions and arm strength. IMO every day training he becomes a eliete RF.

Contreras' future should be in LF. But that creates a logjam, so we may see him in RF. But I don't know that he is ever going to be "elite". But if he stops runners from advancing due to his arm - the most overlooked aspect of RF defense - it will be a plus. His bat needs to be in the lineup.

I don't give two shits what Maldonado weighs at 60. If he frames well now, that's what matters.

You are such an old fart worrying about stupid shit. Let me guess, Strop's hat pisses you off, right?

Thank you, doctor, for determining he has arch trouble just now (it is a bruise) due to running in the OF a month ago.

To be fair I'm guessing all teams have those types of fans unfortunately?!

One thing people don't account for when discussing Wrigley's basket and "cheap" home runs: The wall at Wrigley is significantly higher than at most other parks.

Where does that ball wind up if in other parks where the wall is 5 feet farther back, but 5 feet lower? A HR!

The fan that "stole" the ball exists in every fan base in the majors. Only a knucklehead would think it reflects specifically on Cubs fans. There are highlights of this sort regularly, from all around the league.

Probably a silly question but what's the main reason for the basket? Just so fans can get the balls?

That’s Russell-Bote-Darvish-Almora.

2-6 hitters better bring the lumber. .

IDK he has the arm for RF. He is not out there with a anchor around his waist either. It would be more about learning curve vs a talent limit.

What I tell you about the caps?

Strop has his hat that way because he tucks his chin into his shoulder. Cap would pop off in his delivery. He has a very closed delivery to the mound.
