I'm all in favor of stacking the deck against a lefty. In this case however his splits have never been extreme although his SLG is much worse against righties. When you have the flexibility of this lineup it allows you to do stuff like this. Whether it's right or wrong remains to be seen but clearly Maddon sees something he wants to exploit while giving Happ, who's looking like he might be coming out the other side, and Zobrist some playing time.
Depends on the lefty. A 12/6 lefty or one that paints on the corners really is neutral. The match up comes more from slider pitchers and seeing the spin.
