With a Kimbrel save in the 9th? Only 2 run lead. He needs to build confidence but can't do so sitting on the bench. He needs a drama free 1 2 3 inning.
I was just gonna ask if they plan to use Kimbrel tonight. If not in a situation like this....when? I'd prefer we never see him again but I guess since you're paying him 43 million guaranteed you have to try him again? With a Kimbrel save in the 9th? Only 2 run lead. He has not pitched well enough at any point since being a Cub to warrant putting him into a save situation. He needs to be put into garbage time only situations until he shows he can still pitch.Honestly...If you are afraid to throw Kimbrel out there in this type of situation you may as well get rid of him and eat the loss. Personally...having him out there scares the hell out of me. They could just keep in stashed away for when we have a huge lead in the 9th...or getting blownout and don't care type situations...or when the Cubs run out of pitchers or something.
Exactly. First guy with a solid base hit...now a strikeout. Maybe he gets through this game at least. Crossing my fingers. He has not pitched well enough at any point since being a Cub to warrant putting him into a save situation. How can he earn it though? You can't put him out there in close games. Hell....even 3 run games. If he does well in a garbage situation does that mean anything? It's time to call a spade a spade. Kimbrel is awful and shouldn't close another game until he earns it.
